I went out this morning with Gator, my puppy Blaze, and my catchdog Clyde. My friend met me about 6:45 am. Cast Gator and Blaze by 7am and they stayed gone and busy for about a half hr (2Mi). We were  following a fire break that skirted a block of old over grown palmettoes and cypress swamps. The block was about 1.5mi long and about 700yds wide.

Did not see the dogs for awhile so I checked the Garmin and see they are in the middle of the block. Gator 345yds NE, and the pup Blaze the same distance but NW. decided to sit still and see what happened when we hear Gator start baying. The block is thick with 7-8ft tall palmettoes and briar vines inter laced through out and it was tough going through it for about 270yds till we popped out just west of Gator about 150yds. Did not hear him baying so I looked at the Garmin and it showed treed!! Gator will catch smaller hogs , but usually bayes them till another dog gets there then they catch together.

Checked the Garmin as we continued in Gators direction to see where Blaze was and saw he was heading in are direction from the west. Blaze blows by us and gets to Gator when we are 60yds out and I can hear baying and fighting! Cut Clyde from 25yds out and he fltes to the hog and I hear and smell the boar. Dash into the thick palmettoes and grab the legs to pull the boar out into the open. With 3 65-70pd dogs caught and a 150lb agile boar it took me a couple of times to throw him!! When I do I see that Gator is flayed open in his neck with a 8" by 3" cut that you can see his throat, he is also cut on his hip and upper ham string with a 10" by 2 3/4" cut, and he also has a 3" cut on his shoulder!!

That little boar flat took it to Gator in that tight, thick cover!! I hate those little fast athletic boars with 1 1/2" cutters!! They always do the most damage to my dogs. Never the big 250lb hogs the middle weights!! Hobbled the hog, got the dogs off the hog and checked gator over. No arteries cut, just hide and muscle. He was still caught when i threw the hog and he walked out the 2.5mi to the truck still winding and wanting to hunt!! He is tough as nails!! Called my friend who is a surgeon to see if he could meet me at the house but he was busy with surgeries so I called his wife who is a surgiclal nurse and she met me at the house to help me staple Gator up. %2 staples and never whimpered a bit. He is getting some TLC for the next 2wks!!

Old hog hunter told me years back "don't worry bout them ones with big cutters. Worry about them mean lil daddy didn't marry mommys with the 1.5" teeth." That has proved to be true for me.

Looks like the dogs got some heart to still be hung off the ear even being that cut down! What part of FL are you out of?

X2 r 3 r 4, In 35 years the most damage I've  seen made to dogs was by a 180 pound long slender red and black spotted boar. I don't think the color had anything to do with it tho  Tongue. Hope your dog gets back to 100%

Those "smaller" hogs are sure fast. My brother and a catch dog got cut up good by this one this past spring.

The dog healed up and my brother now has a pretty badass scar lol.
