So last night young dog of mine (20 month) had one bayed up for Maybee min or so then broke and watchin roll out when I get to um he's walkin up to me thought nothing of it xcept bein pissey for him giving up , this morning I find he's got a 5 inch gash where he got laid open had to put 10 staples in . First time he's been cut and he's not rough. Have y'all had a young dog give up after gettin it handed to in em for the first time , and what did y'all do to put the pep back in his step after . Good prospect has found bunch hogs already and held um bayed for over 20 min till we have got to him ,just didn't like the fact he gave up after the cut last night.

Some have it and some don't. Rolling on after being cut is part of the proving process to being breed worthy for me. If he quits after being cut again I'd cull him. As for getting his "pep" back, just take him hunting again and should tell you what he is.

I know everyone has there own training methods for dogs, but I put alot of pen time letting the pups get wrecked. Alot will run to get out but I always stand by the gate were the pups are put in and keep it opened for an out. They usually come out and bay the outside for a while but always go back in baying up again. Let them get wrecked with you close buy, so you can doctor them up. Sounds a little harsh but dogs will always hunt when getting hit hard because he or she has been there alot.
