Does choking a bulldog discourage them from catching? Cause I can get my bulldogs off a hog but ever know in then she won't get off so I choke her collar will that affect her catching iny

prolly will get moved to hog dogs or general..... but id say save your time and energy and use a break stick.

I know some guys that do it and I have never seen it affect them any. That being said I am a 100% believer in and totally agree in using a break stick.

We choke all ours off and that's how we always done it and as far as I know it don't affect them any. They probably don't even know it because they seem to be in their own world during this time anyway

To each their own, but the safest fastest most effective way to break a bulldog off anything is with a break stick.

Well I always just stick my fingers n there nose n about 10 secs later they try to breath threw there mouth n I pull them off

What??? That's a definite new one on me. I choke mine off, and before long, the slightest pressure pulling on the collar will make them come loose. |

I use to have a bulldog named Mac it was no fast effective way to break him off. I should of named him jaws but I didn't know he was gonna be like that when i named him as a pup. It was all one man could do to break him off with a break stick or without it didn't matter 90% of the time we would have to wait til he almost passed out before he would let go I've been around my share of bulldogs and haven't seen one yet that had the bite he had. It's hard to choke them off with a 4 in cut collar but with just one of them regular dayglow collars it's just as effective to choke them off. |

Ya just grab there collar or vest n put the other hands 2 fingers in there no n before long dogs off if you are pulling them away

I use a break stick while giving them the command caught hog. Over time they learn to release the hog on command of caught hog. Not into choking or hitting the dog to teach him something.

Like I said, to each their own, BUT......
I will never understand why people choke (which CAN cause damage over time to your dog, both physically and mentally), or hit their CD's over the head to break them off a hog, when they are doing something you WANT them to do, that they are SUPPOSED to do. If one knows (NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE) how to properly manipulate a break stick, you can indeed break a bulldog off effectively. I have broken off some VERY powerful hard biters, with bi lateral carpal tunnel in my hands/wrists, with a break stick. No choking or punching needed. All the time it takes to choke a dog to where he's about to sleep to let go, he could have been broken off with a break stick multiple times over.
I do not tell people what to do or what not to do with their dogs, but this is just how I feel/handle mine.

If you're trying to leave the pig intact then it doesn't make sense to use any method other than a break stick. In my humble opinion that is.
Why would you hit the dog to get it off? Take a pretty big dipnumber 2 to think that's the best approach. (That opinion isn't very humble...)
How long does it take to choke a pit bull dog to sleep? It only takes like seven seconds to use a break stick and there's no threat of hurting the dog at all.
That being said is brain cell loss really a big issue when dealing with a pit bull? Not really.

It's like the vest issue on bulldogs, different strokes for different folks.
Nobody is talking about choking em til they pass out. I go to the woods to catch hogs and do it my way, I usually have only a pocket knife and a few pieces of tie rope. Just the way I do it and everyone I hunt with does it.

Not if you know how to use one correctly... ^^This. Proper use over the past 15 years.....hard biting dogs, never ONCE have I broken/chipped a tooth on a dog. Now I've seen idiots trying to use metal pipes etc as break sticks and break dogs teeth....of course it'd happen then. |

Well stay away from the teeth. At the back of every dogs mouth God created a gap just perfect for a break stick. You and your dogs are welcome. If you need anymore help with anatomy or really anything else don't hesitate to ask. |

Break stick s worry me. I have used one twice I think. Seen others use them plenty. Not something I will ever use. Not if you know how to use one correctly... ^^This.
