Had a guy send me a couple pictures of a pup he got from my last Jasper/Bella litter. I only kept the female and most of the other pups just went out to families as pets. The female pup I kept is pretty standard (in my opinion) size for a BMC/Catahoula cross. She's probably 45-50 lbs right now and I expect she'll end up around 55-60. Now....a few of her brothers. 2 that were originally my pick of the litters are some pretty dang big dogs...even at 7 months. This one is 75lbs and still growing....and as you can see...he ain't fat. Jasper is around 65lbs but that's his hunting weight. If I let him get to just house dog weight ... He'd probably be 75ish. His daddy was an 85lb BMC and that was his running weight. My Bella gyp...the mother to the pups above is 1/2 Catahoula 1/4 Red Bone 1/4 Pitt. Bella just looks like a standard Catahoula, she's probably 55lbs or so. Now her sister is a REALLY big gyp. She's probably 65-70lbs running weight. She is real leggy with a big block head. I think the red bone and Pitt show a lot more in her. Anyway...... I've always just been a Catahoula guy and (I know there are different lines out there...some with size) most of my dogs were in the 45-55lb range. Seems like I'm running bigger dogs now days...and that's fine... They work for me....just eat more, lol. Just wondering....what size dogs do you all run? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I run a couple curs with a plot/cat. The 2 males are on the bigger side. The yella dog buck weighs In around 70-75lbs hunting wise and buster the plot/cat goes for 60-65 hunting shape. Sometimes hard too keep weight on him because of how much he runs.

I like my hunting dogs in the 40-55# range & my catchdogs 70-85#. Not starting anything but in our cutovers, the smaller dogs get thru quite a bit faster then the big dogs. Seen it happen way to much.

I have a couple of dogs in the 70lb area and one older dog that's around 90lb. They move just fine thru the clearcuts.

A big dog is fine as long as he is a natural athlete can move on out got plenty of wind and stamina . Were the problem comes in is when they are just big and get in their on way , short on wind , slow and so on and so on .

I prefer dogs in the 50-60 lb range. But I like ANY dog that is fast on a track.. Size don't always determine track speed.
