When I was growing up hunting behind my dad, he always carried an older style 6 volt halogen headlight. This headlight had a round head with metal back, simple two prong bulb, had a detachable red lens, and a post style toggle switch on the side. It had a single red white and blue elastic headband, and a paired 18 guage cord running off it with alligator clips on the end. I was unfortunate enough to be the one driving when the tackle box full of his vintage gear slid out of the back of the pickup one night when were crossin a creek and got bogged down in the mud. I have yet to live down running over a 30 year old heirloom. Im wanting to find some more of these lights, and give him back a piece of his past for Christmas. Does anyone know what light im talking about? Anybody have any? If so can you help me out with any info, manufacturer, model?? I have searched high and low and apparently they just all dissapered! It had to be a common light, because dad had a pile of parts for them, or so I thought. Thanks in advance!

I remember those lights. My dad had one and so did all my uncles. Many a coon deer and frog lost his life because of those lights. U could buy them at walmart back then if I remember right. Like u tho I have no idea of the brand.

That's right, walmart did carry them. Long before the ".com" shopping. I keep wanting to think rayovac made them??

They came with a flimsy plastic battery carrying case with belt loops on it.

Yep and they usually ended up in a jacket pocket or vest pocket instead. Rayovack may be right. I remember they came with rayovack batteries. Shotgun Arkansas |

I searched vintage rayovac headlight in google. It was called the nighthawk by rayovac. Once I found the rayovac museum page I got the name. If someone hadn't mentioned rayovac I never would have remembered.

U r correct on the brand. My dad n i each had 1 in case we needed to split up n flush the game towards 1 another. Our burned up in a house fire 5-6yrs ago and hadnt even givin them a sec thought till this post. We would take 2 6vdc square top batts n connect them for high amp output, but stayin at 6vdc. |

I used one of them any a night when I was out of carbide lol I used a hotter bulb and ran two batteries hooked up in in series and made it much brighter . but you had to carry extra bulbs incase you blew one . I remember mine blowing one night and I had to build a fire and use my bick lighter to shine coons eyes and see my sight on my 22 rifle . got three coons out that night and it wasn't fun heading back to the truck carrying three coons and trying to lead two hounds out about 2 miles in the dark lol my hounds would normally just heal up and follow me but I didn't want to chance them hitting another track with me not having any light . I found a site called www.lamptramp.com that still deals in old vintage carbide lamps which some of them are still new and am thinking seriously on ordering the ol just-rite carbide lamp from them . |

We changed the bulbs from pr 12 and 13 to pr2 and can run 12 volt gell cells about 5 times the beam and battery life.
