Go to Ubraidit.com and order the book "How to braid quality custom tack". It's about $20 and its a good one for learning basic braiding techniques. Also has some advanced stuff too. Lots of good detailed pictures and instructions. It's the book I refer back to when I need a refresher course. It shows exactly what your wanting to do.

They work fine on smaller hogs. But, I recently found out on a big hog that they pull them down so tight that they are a bear to get off. You dang sure wont have to worry about them slipping a leg out with the slip knot. I haven't made anymore, since most of my spare time is spent plaiting cow whips.  I think the next time I will try it with the smallest d-rings I can find. I think a wider braid through a smaller d-ring will give you good tension as to not slip a leg, but they will still be easy enough to remove. You will want to hang the cord over one ring and flat braid down your determined length. Insert the other ring at end and then back braid a bit. That book explains it pretty good
