Make a police report, so you have that on your side, i'd go with the advice of letting the law decide, but he EARNED whatever he gets from a judge, and here in Alabama, that would fall under a class C felony,, so here, if convicted, he'd lose his gun rights and he'd never be a threat to shoot a dog with a gun again, unless he were real stupid and wanted to risk jail time. But thats what he needs to be sure he dont ever put no one else through what he's put you through. Just a question, have you ever heard of other dogs being shot in the same vicinity? I doubt it was the first time he's shot dogs, i guess i feel like family or no, if someone shoots my dogs, it's MY responsability to put a stop to it so it dont happen again.

He needs to learn a lesson so he don't do it again. Doesn't matter who he is to me.

That really blows!  I ain't ur daddy so I ain't gonna tell ya what you did wrong, u know deer season brings out the retards!  With that being said.  I'm not one on involving the cops, but him losing some hunting licenses would b nice. As far as restitution, what's done is done and you can't get your dogs back.  If he isn't willing to give you what you want for the dogs get every penny you can and I'm with dropper

All things considered, I WOULD: give him a bit to make the next move. If he comes by to see how to amend it, see what he proposes. If it's acceptable or even close agree to it, whip his ass, blow the tires off his truck and then tell him if you want he is forgiven.

But that's just me.  Evil

there is a big chance hunting dogs will be shot during deer season when they are running through a lease...

I have seen 3 different times where house dogs pack up and run deer during the daytime when the owners are off to work...Rottweiler's, labs, Dobermans, spitz,...usually purebreds...these dogs are running to catch otherwise they wouldn't be out there...I wonder how many deer these dogs eat that are not on a chain or in a kennel...

Training dogs is not about quantity, it's more about timing, the right situations, and proper guidance...After that it's up to the dog...

That's a tough call... I wouldn't side either way but simply hunting at night during deer season or not hunting at all would have solved this

If you hunt during daylight in deer season you had better make sure you dot all your i's and cross all your t's. I would have made sure everyone on the lease knew I was hunting that day, etc

How big of place were you hunting?
