Ok I had one of my bulldogs get ahold of my boston terrier. I cleaned his cut and gave him some penasillin. We stapled him up as well. But noticed today something stinking. I followed it to him. He has pulled his stitches out and opened his cut. It is oozing and stinks bad. What can I do for the cut and why Is it stinking so bad? Any suggestions.

Infection. More internal antibiotics and antibiotic wash in the cut itself. Be sure to leave a drain.

Like shotgun said, wash it good first and be sure to leave a drain hole.

As mentioned, leave it open.

Keep on oral antibiotics, and what I would do for an open wound is glob Furizone into the wound twice a day. The neon green stuff that comes in a container that's for horses you can get at the feed store. I have seen that stuff heal VERY bad open wounds before.

x2...My wife has a small terrier and he has tangled with one of my curs on several occasions and each time he has gotten some deep cuts...keeping clean is not enough because infection sets in each time...start the oral antibiotics and a topical like cut heal...but if it is an indoor dog cut heal will not work because it is smelly...I started using quick heal and that has worked out pretty good for my wife's indoor dog...

Dog's are tough yes, but if/when infection has already set in, the wound should be treated more aggressively.

Good advice from all. I have used Alum (pickling spice at grocery store) made into a paste with mineral oil. You just pack it into the wound once or twice daily. Mineral oil makes it stick and the alum draws infection out and pulls it back together. I use it when an animal won't leave staples/stitches in. Plus, it don't taste so hot and they will leave it alone.

I bought some Farnam wonder dust from tractor supply. It has done wonders so far. Had to cut a lot of dead skin off. It made a big hole from one cut to the other and killed some flesh and skin. But doing better now.
