I have a BMC that is about 4years old. This past saturday she struck a hog and everytime it would break she would bark on track. She's never done this before. I've seen her whine while running a hot track but this time she was full blown open. Has anyone had a silent dog that started to open up after years of being silent?

It's not really considered open if it barks after the hog breaks a bay. Most curs will do that. All mine will but it really doesn't matter if they had already bayed the hog. The reason people want closed mouth dogs is because they believe it pushes the hog... But when the hog is running away from the dogs he already knows they are there. Most dogs do that because they are RIGHT on the pigs rear.

my 12 year old male just started opening this year...im talking full blown open. both times have been during a lot of commotion or right after the first hog was caught so idk if its just him getting over excited or what but when i pull him first out of the box he is still dead silent so idk whats going on...he also just recently became a loose baying dog. he has always been straight catch. gues its the old age...dementia haha

I have saw several dogs after they get older. I'm thinking they are either trying to call the younger faster dogs back or they are pissed cause they can't keep up with the younger dogs. Just a theory!

You hit the nail on the head when it comes to older dogs all of a sudden opening. They've got the heart to do it, but their old bones just ain't letting em stay in the front of the race.
