I hog hunt for fun and as a hobby, but ive been approached by a ranch owner to come hunt and remove hogs off his land.  He wants to pay me for it, i told him i would do it for free but he insist on paying me for the service he calls it. If anyone does this as a business how much do you guys charge, or if anyone have any idea it would be appreciated.

Where is this ranch located? If possible, try to talk him out of paying you for it so he doesnt hold anything agianst you if you dont catch as much as he wants you to. If not just charge the gas to drive out there, depending on how far away it is.

Had a guy do the same to me. He offered to pay, i told him i would do it for free n enjoyment n ask him if he wanted to come along. He accepted the tag along n when we were done, he put a ck in my tck seat n took off. Not knowing his address, i couldnt mail it back n the drive was 2hrs 1 way so i called him for his address n he refused to take the ck back and insisted i keep the money. If he is dead set on paying u, as what mikejc said, only for fuel

Charles, I noticed you were from troy, Tx. I used to live in Lorena, south of waco.Is the grain hunting there still fairly good during season?

Well i have a pest control company, and we occasionally remove coons and squirrel from attics and things like that. So i think he thought it was fitting to pay me, plus ive trapped a lot of hogs out there. Ranch not too far from me takes me like 30mins to get there maybe $10-15 in diesel. I have asked him a few times to come out and hunt with us but he always say he's a farmer not a hunter. He 's one of those guys that would rather pay someone than do it himself. Not a bad thing in my case i guess, thanks guys for the input.

I would suggest charging him by the head or by estimated weight.  Let him set the price per head and no charge for anything under say 50 lbs.  Also, show him every hog and let him estimate to weight that way you are always right.  I think a fair price would be between 5 and 10 cents a pound.

If you dont catch a hog than no charge either way.

I learned a long time ago that no good deed goes unpunished.  Everytime I try to do something for someone else, I end of losing.  I would have no problem charging him if that is what he wants.  He will probably use the expense as a write off anyway.

Sey for replying sooner. I saw ur reply just before i went flying and completely forgot about replying. Not real sure, iv been here 2yrs n the first 7 months i was across the pond, n not sure how good it was before i got there. I aslo do not hunt a great deal n diffinstely wont this yr bc of school n flying and may move back to ks for the fall semester n get my rotary wing transition or go to waco for it, but either way, school will take a lot of time. This learning to fly n associated classes aint as easy as i was hoping. The wife said my gray hairs hav nearly trippled since i started flying n my hair is thinning faster.
