We'll I'm new to open dogs. I'm a young guy and wanna know a little about open dogs. I've ran silent dogs all my life and just bought a open dog. She opens when she is on a hot hot track or if she can see the hog. She has been striking me allot of hogs but I can't stop them. the other dog I run on the ground with her is open as we'll but we just can't seem to stop hogs. What should I do.

How long will they stay with one? How fast do they move a track. How experienced are the dogs. Will they put teeth on one to stop it. There are lots of variables.

So far mine has stuck with them for about 30 mins each time and she does put teeth but once it's stopped she sits back and bays and she's not gritty at all she's a damn good strike dog tho. Do u think I need to put some gritty dogs with her or will that make things worse.

I have seen hogs in areas that ran bad where 30 min was just getting warmed up. Have u been hunting all winter or just like most right now. Just getting back in the woods after the deer season break. I mean is the dog in shape or has it been laid up a while. If ur dog will put teeth on one to get it turned then bay. I don't think u need any grittier dogs. With it only staying for 30 min I think that could be the issue. I would just keep running them and really study what is happening. It really could just be the fact ur dogs are out of shape.

Did the dog come from hunting in a diffent terrain ? Is she moving the track good ?
Are you sure she is on a hog ?
An also is she just stoping an coming back or  what ?

Is she jumping the hog or is she starting old tracks an not being able to Finish them ?

At 2 she should be staying with one. What I would do is find someone that has a dog with good bottom and put her with it. It could be she don't have enough confidence it could be she just don't have it in her.

I probly ain't helped much. Lol every dog is different. Sometimes it just takes watching and learning. Other times all a dog needs is a chance to shine. U just got this dog and u don't know 100% how the last guys dogs hunted. They may have been dogs that run one a ways and if it don't stop they do. It could be all this dog knows. I'm not one to give up on a dog to fast. I will try just about anything to get what I want out of a dog. I have dogs that had never looked at a hog until they was a year and half old. At 2 they aren't where most 2yr olds are but they coming along. Slowly but surely.
