There seem to be alot of posts regarding dog food, commercial or raw diet etc... I remember our does ate what we ate. When i first got into pits, most everybody used ol' roy. Nowadays with so many choices its hard to choose. Does anybody still use ol' roy? I prefer the brown bag hi preformance!

I tried it on my dogs and the poop smelled like catfish bait and the flies from the next county moved in...other than that it wasn't that bad...

Ol Roy is junk. Your dogs will crap yellow cow patties and have no "go" in them. Long hunts and long races will show you the benefits of a high protein/high fat feed in your dogs performance.

20 to 25 years ago it was good feed. That's what we fed our walker deer dogs. Them dudes could go all day hammering. Turn around and do it again the next day and the day after. Back then Sam Walton was still alive. The reason the feed is called ol Roy is because that was the name of sam's favorite dog. He had the feed bagged for Walmart. He was quoted as saying he wanted a feed that was good that a person could feed hunting dogs without going broke.
Today is a different story. Just like Walmart is a shell of what Sam built so are the products that carry the name. I have seen Sam walk in a store and talk to his employees first before talking to the managers. Driving an old ford wearing overalls and a cap. The folks today are only counting money and the cheapest ingredient makes the most profit. I would not feed the ol Roy of today to my dogs.

i have tried a few different dog foods, some the dogs ate others they didnt but its like scott said, use what works for your situation. i have even mixed dog foods to get a finicky dog to eat, added bacon grease, milk etc...

Ol roy in the old days thats what we feed,dogs did great on it,like shotgun said it was who was making it,we stopped feeding it cause it would make dogs bleed,went they had a num 2.and after taking 3 dogs to the vet with kidney problems,dogs would look good,but wen you started hunting hard you could tell it wasnt good for dogs
