Apologies in advance if this is a widely discussed topic, my search skills may be lacking.
How many of you guys eat the pigs you catch/kill. I only ask because I know people who shoot them with guns that don't, they just like shooting them. Which is fine but I think it's a waste.
Second part. For those who have larger packs, or heck even a couple dogs, do you ever supplement your dogs feed with left over hog meat. Maybe mixed with veggies and rice to make it more like 'normal' food. I imagine it would freeze well, although it might take a bit of trial and error to get the protein to fat %'s down. I goggled 'making dog food from hog' and couldn't find much of anything. Some people mentioned canning it.
Thanks and happy hunting.

We do both. We process a lot of the hogs we catch or give them to people who need or want the meat. We also feed them to the dogs sometimes.

HELL YEA WE EAT EM..........wild hog done up right is just about as good as it gets! I don't care what anyone says, you throw a pork backstrap next to a deer backstrap and this ol boy will take the pork over the deer any day of the week! I also feed em to my dogs, hell that's a free meal and less dog food I gotta buy. Now I won't say that i've never left one lay but more often than not I take at least the shoulders (to feed the dogs) and backstraps (to feed me ) if it's cool enough and I can get em on ice pretty quick.

When feeding it to dogs its best to freeze it first to kill off parasites. When we feed it to the dogs, its quartered up and they each get a piece that has hide hair bones and all.

I leave most of them. I feed raw year round. When I get home from hunting the last thing I want time do is clean a hog. I might actually clean a few while it is still cool out though. My chicken price went up ten cents per pound.

Any I kill, the dogs will get the scraps (raw, after being frozen at least 24 hrs) back bone quarterd up, flank/belly, organs, and sometimes a ham or shoulder if they got chewed up. Dont think I've let anything lay, maybe a shoat that the dogs caught way off

Eat the bulk of it n give the rest to the dogs. There are way to many folks who could use the meat. Donation would be better than just leaving them lay to rot n feed the buzzards. I guess buzzards deserve to eat more than humans.

Either I or others eat pretty much everything we kill when it's cool. After it gets hot it's more of a issue if we have a cooler or room then we may or may not. Dogs get the trimmings and whatever meat in the freezer that may be freezer burned. They also get some cooked when we make them dog stew time to time.

Feed the dogs! That's perfectly fine to do. Like they said I would freeze it. They can also eat bones (uncooked) so don't be shy . Good source of calcium

Might be odd to some but one got hit down the road from my house so I gutted it on the side of the road an just thru the guys for the buzzards. Took the pig to the house and lit the burn barrel. Cooked the whole hog over the fire and fed 11 dogs the other day. They were so full they couldn't stand up haha. We also feed caught pigs that die or get killed from stress to the dogs. Been on stinkin boars lately so haven't messed with eating them.

We eat 'em of course! I'll be the odd one out though, in that I do not/will not feed pork to my dogs.
