well this old dog has decided to join the 21st or 22nd century which ever it is hell maybe 23rd   lol  but about garmin maps . I see they have the area maps and the whole [ usa ] map and they all seem to be the same price . so would it be advisable to just go ahead and get the  USA map with the system . I also noticed that texas is all by it's self as far as area maps go . question is I guess is the USA map as detailed as the rest ?  and will the birdseye cover the whole when you order it or is it by areas as well .

I have topo usa and have all of texas, ok, la, ar, ks and mo and the detail from 1 state to the next is the same. I have them loaded on a micro sd card and can switch between my garmin and lorance units and again the features are the same.

Ur 320 can only hold a limited amount of area on birds eye. Birds eye will overlay on topo map. I personally have 6 areas downloaded of birds eye on my 320. One area is probly 15 square miles. Other areas are smaller. U can down load areas at any time from a computer with internet. If I know I am hunting a new area not on my birds eye in just remove a location I don't need and replace with the one I do. With the map card if u get outside ur birds eye u do still have normal topo maps to go by.

Satellite Imagery (one of the Birds Eye options I believe) is the way to go. I LOVE it!!

Just thought id chime in. I just posted a similar topic last week and had limited help.I had to learn alot by trial and error. If your looking for a "google earth" style map, order the birdseye. Then go down to radio shack or walmart and by a micro sd card. I bought a 32 gig and you can get alot of country on it. Birdseye is a little confusing till you get the hang of it, but is surely the way to go. I got most of central texas in standard definition, and alot of the current places i hunt in high definition. And still have plenty of space. High def is awsome, i could see a tire laying in the bed of a parked ranch truck. High def takes forever to download. Topo maps are just lines on your map, I recommend going with the birdseye. Idk if the 220 is sd compatable but do know the 320 is, the card pops in right behind your battery. Hope this helps!
