So last night around 8pm I went to check a feeder at my lease that I have a C trap built around i an brought my 1 1/2 yr old bulldog that has only caught once with me workin him but has never been to a bay an only twice in the woods so I didnt think he would go far from  me so I let him run loose an that was the wrong thing to do he struck an nice hog about 180 yds from the feeder on the other side of a deep swamp no vest no cut colar nothing all I heard was a lot of racket an brush breakin an grunting an then heard him yelped ah couple of times an silence an felt so helpless since I had my 5 yr old with  me an a buddy that has never be hog hunting so I start callin him bk an trynna find a way around the swamp for two hours an nothing so  then I start hearing yotes an think they are gonna kill my dog so I shoot a couple of times to scare the yotes off  I finally jst go bk to the where we last seen my dog an leave my shirt an hat an drive around the place to try an get to the other side of he swamp jst the last hope I had since I hadnt heard in over 1 hr 1/2  an start yellin for him an out of no where he come runnin out of the brush soakin wet an wore out an he had a lil cut on his cheek luckily   made it home by 11pm  with my dog an my lil 5 yr old freezing his lil tail off but didn't want to leave without that dog he yelled an yelled right along with me ( Wat would u do in this situation ?)

Glad you got him back! A bulldog off lead can often lead to such an event. He's lucky you were determined to not go home without him that night.

I would of did what you did and looked for him. But I don't turn a dog loose in anykind of way without a tracking collar on. To me it's not so bad getting one killed versus turning one loose not knowing if it's laying there crippled up or whatever it may be .

I lost my Ol'Dogo(which was not a catch dog as he had the re-grip problem)the same way kinda.Neighbor runs over says I'm grabbing him cause there's two hogs in a fenced in yard with kids.Needless to say he winded bailed out the truck over the fence and was killing shorts the whole way.Everyday and night and finally found him.He evidently locked and they rallied and got him.Got his collar but the worse part was my daughter remembers him leaving and still to this day says Ol'Bo is still hunting Dad.Glad you found him and sorry for the long post but one simple mistake and bam.
