What I wanna know is what is it inside of a pit bull that makes him want to grab a hold of something 5 times his size. What posseses him to do that. Don't tell me its cus he wanna please his owner or something  My bull dog grabbed the first hog he ever seen ever since then he would go to bay and do his deal.

Hundreds of years old selective breeding.

Wasn't even finished posting. Prey drive.
Same thing that makes terriers want to catch raccoons, rats, nutria, fox, badger, etc.

There are several dogs with more psi to there bite than bulldogs it is the reverse muscle that is the difference. Some will back off easier than others

the turning and mauling people is not logical. it doesn't matter what the dog is. if its trained to act crazy its going to act crazy. if you teach a dog to sick on people when it gets loose and bites you shouldn't blame the dog in the news but the do. but involuntary muscle spasm in the jaws , that's locgical.

With all due respect "willsho", I knew you didn't know what you were talking about when you said you've been "breeding and raising" since you were 8. Maybe chasing dogs around in your pajamas but definitely not "breeding and raising". Then when you said "lock jaw", that was the cake on the icing.

As was stated earlier, this ignorant thread needs to be removed. Just my honest opinion...

For the guy that asked about me breeding the dogs. I will be breeding some soon, but I have to do it the way the old man wants me to or he will take the dog or shoot it. He is very set in his ways and trying to perfect his bloodlines. But I will put them on here when I have some. feel free to continue the convo, I like to see what peoples opinions are. But im finna load up and go hunting. safe hunting hoggers

What is involuntary about a dog staying in hold?

Do you have any scientific research that backs up this involuntary muscle spasm?

I'm getting a headache here. Were you not originally talking about a very much LIVE dog catching a hog that you were describing as having "lock jaw?"

Now we're discussing a dog dying while in hold? There's also a term old timers use for dogs dying while in hold, and it darn sure isn't "lock jaw."

No buddy. breading raising and selling them since I was 8. unlike most people ive had a fascination with the pitbull breed since I was old enough to know what they were. and would stay with older dog men while other children were outside playing in order to learn more about them. were they come from and different bloodlines and why people bread the way they did. for example MAYDAY, JOKO, ELI, CHINAMAN, PLUMBERS GATOR. I bet most people cant tell which lines are named after the man and which is actually from the dog.

Anyone can run off names you can find on google when you type in "pit bull."

If you know as much as you say about bulldogs, you certainly wouldn't be throwing around terms like "lock jaw."

Oh, and please have some respect....it's "Jocko" and "Plumber's ALLIGATOR".

'Nuff said.

Oh, and while we're at it..

Mayday - dog

Jocko - dog

Eli - dog

Chinaman - dog

Plumber - one of two brother responsible for alligators greatness....

Alligator - dog

See... not that hard...

ETHD (along with everywhere) has people who don't appreciate people disrespecting the breed by spreading misinformation. And they're going around swearing by it like it's law. It's incorrect information about a breed who is already extremely incorrectly misunderstood.

I agree. I had and still get grief from many people for owning pit bulls. My bull dog lays his head n my lap on the way to the lease and on the way back after catching hogs. Calm as can be till go time
