My buddy and my cousin are wanting to breed dogos into there pitbulls in order to get bigger catchdogs. Asked me what I think, I told them I don't know ive only seen a few. The first one I seen was with some new hunting buddys. they said he was tuff and would catch anything. but we bayed a pretty good sized hog and it would not catch, didn't want nothing to do with it but would catch a little hog. Then my other buddy bought one. big muscled up good looking dog, would nail a big hog in the pen. but when we bayed a smaller hog than the one in the pen while in the woods he started baying like a cur. But then my buddy quincy had one half dogo half pit that was a good catch dog. it never growled or barked or wagged its tail, it was like an emotionless . you better believe when he turned him loose he was gone catch a hog. he was TUFF. But I want info and or incite on breeding dogos into their lines to make bigger catchdogs.

I had a dogo. Got rid of him Cus he was just too big. 130 lbs and lean. But far as catching he did the deal and hang on had a stride like a cheetah. His name was DRAG for a reason. He'd drag u to the bay. Might as well turn him loose.

ok. that's what they want, but they want to breed there blood into it because they like the was there blood works. would the dogs be more likely to catch well off of the first breeding or would they have to put more of their blood into it. because I hear some say that some lines of dogo wont catch and some will. will the pitbull offset the blood enough to produce more dogs more likely to catch.?

If you've been breeding dogs since you were 8 years old....you should already know the answer.

But the question you were is asking is general in nature to canines and breeding. An experienced breeder of any working animal knows the answer to the question you posed.

You shouldn't have a problem. I wouldnt breed a male dogo to a female pit tho. Could kill she gyp n labor.

Sounds to me like your buddies had some Dogo's that needed culling. If you have the right line of Dogo there is no need to breed it to a Pit. You are essentially breeding down. Sounds to me like you dont have the right dogo. To many folks breeding them for trading purposes and not for working. On an equal playing field the original line of dogo's IMO is superior to the pit and I have had both and think the world of both breeds.

Why would you need a catch dog bigger than a dogo anyways. Seems to me if u breed a dogo and a pit you would get a smaller dog not a bigger dog.

Willsho, tell them to just get a couple good American bulldogs. That's covers the size and everything else. Remember I said "good" Abs. Not just anything.

It's just an opinion, but do what you want and feed what works. What most people get annoyed about is people trying to reinventing the wheel. People cross dogs all the time. Find the best you can, with the best qualities that you want filled. The ones that don't qualify, must be culled. Not given away, not sold, just culled. It's just when people ask for opinions on here, some or both parties get offended. I can't figure out why, some answer the way they do but that's life I guess. I'm not telling you what to do at all, I am just trying to give you some advise and insight.
Thanks,
Coach

I agree with Coach on the reinventing the wheel deal. That's what I see your friends trying to do. The things they are asking have been accomplished already by other people long ago who are now dead. When you cross dogs the offspring are inconsistent, then you have to keep crossing to mix and match to try and get this and that. If you stick with one breed you get more consistency and can predict what you get. You have to start with good stock though and that includes catch dogs. Another thing you said, that your friends like the way their dogs work, if they did they wouldn't be looking to cross to another breed. Their actions suggest that they are "not" satisfied which is why they want to cross out to another breed. Why go through all that extra work? That's why I suggested to use good abs, because people before us ran into the same problems and solved it already. Abs encompass the ability to catch, wind for hogs, and can be used to run along with curdogs loose as well even in hot weather and they are big enough and tough enough to stop big rank hogs. I know b/c my dogs do it and they produce dogs that do it. Or you

for the people that understand what im talking about THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE. For the others my buddy and my cousin actually have good catchdogs. they hit hard and stay caught. they are just tiny dogs and they wanted to add size to the dogs and thought about using the dogo for that reason. once again thank you

For the guy that asked about me breeding the dogs. I will be breeding some soon, but I have to do it the way the old man wants me to or he will take the dog or shoot it. He is very set in his ways and trying to perfect his bloodlines. But I will put them on here when I have some. feel free to continue the convo, I like to see what peoples opinions are. But im finna load up and go hunting. safe hunting hoggers QUOTE FROM WILLSHO FROM UNBELIEVEABLE BULLDOG THREAD
