Kaylon Sowell was my uncle that I grew up coon hunting with. Kaylon passed away about four months ago just from being old and worn out, his wife had just passed a few months prior. I went to the hospital to see him the day before he passed and got a smile out of him (something no one had seen from him in a while). I was talking about a certain old coon hound I was always very fond of... The dog was named Hobo, and we had some damn good memories of him. I told him to get well soon so we can get together and talk hounds and I got another big smile. The next day I got a call that kaylon was passing and I got to the hospital to see him off. At the funeral I asked my cousin if they ran across any old dog pictures or trophies and such to keep me something to remember him by. Well, today my cousin brought some stuff by. A couple plaques a big trophy and of all the things.... Hobo's pedigree Smiley The pedigree i huge and seems like it has hundreds of dogs names on it. Hobo always had a special place in my heart, I think partly because uncle Kaylon thought so much of him and mostly because he was the dog I followed through the swamps and briars so many nights walking with Kaylon. Right about the time kaylon passed Jesse Paul gave me a pup out of a breeding he had never done before. This breeding was bringing his two lines together Drifter/Gill. I was very excited about this litter and was happy to get a pup. I named the pup Hobo, hopefully he will be as good of a hog dog as his namesake was a coon dog. If there are coons in heaven, I bet kaylon and Hobo have treed a mess of em.

A pic of some of the stuff

Aww, RIP to him, and that's neat that you got some memorabilia to remember him by! Good luck with your pup too!

I forgot to bring up in my original post how strange it was that out of the hundreds of dogs he had over the years that my cousin would have grabbed hobos pedigree.. wild stuff there!

Sorry for your family's loss Travis

Looks like your uncle had some awesome coon dogs and that sure is great you got ahold of all those items to remember him by. you should take that pedigree somewhere to get framed up real nice .

My grandfather was a coon hunter and I was able to get some of he's old guns and pictures after he passed away  .. That stuff didn't mean nothin to anyone else in my family but to me its priceless.

I hope your new Hobo pup works out for you !

Take care

That is cool....you always talked about him. Rip.

I think I was around him at some of the coon hunts when I was younger, his name was always real familiar.  You should frame that ped.

Very sorry about your loss peachcreek. I have a couple of boxes of OLD coon hunting magazines that I inherited. They go as far back as the forties I think. A lot of them are 70's-90's though. I see that ol' Hobo was born in '82. If I find any with him or your uncle in them, you are sure welcome to them if you want them.
