What is the best pistol in the 5 to 600.00 dollar range? I do not want a 1911 style pistol because I am going to teach my wife and daughters how to shoot and nothing with a hammer. I have shot a Springfield Armory XD 45 alot and a Glock 19 9mm. I like what I have read about the Sig Sauer P250 model. Just really wanted to see what others that shoot pistols quite a bit likes to shoot. Whatever pistol I decide to buy it will be a 357sig caliber. Thanks for the replies

I'm a deputy and have owned and shot several brands but I love my Glock. It's just like dogs, everybody thinks there's is the best but Glock is what I trust my life with. Not knocking the others plus they're so easy to clean

For a wife or daughter, I would go with a revolver in .38. But 9mm in a glock if you want semiauto

I would recommend a 9mm or smaller for women. Not sure how true it is but I was told the other day that Glock is making a 380 now. My buddy says the 357 sig has a pretty good punch, maybe too much for females. You want to get something they will enjoy shooting ( not something that will intimidate them).

If you are teaching your wife and kids I would recommend a full size 9mm, full size will have less recoil than a compact and 9mm because not a lot of recoil, effective still, and its an easy caliber to find ammo.

I have a glock 36, sig saur p250 and 1911 all in 45. The Sig is my favorite and all cost me in the range you are wanting.

Sig, sa xd or h&k. I hate to say it, but a 9mm would probably b a good caliber to start off with for fm shooters. The 45 might have a lil too much kick back.

It depends on what you want the final out come to be. If your looking for something your wife can carry and be the primary user of for self defense etc. I would get a hammerless revolver. It wont jamb and will go bang or to the next cylinder every time the trigger is pulled. A semi-auto is more user involved so to speak. Now if you plan on running reload/mal function drills with her id get a glock. They are bulky but they work. Ive carried one for 9 years that I trust not only my life with but also the public's. I also have two of my own because the reliability is there. If you get a 9mm for your wife you can always feed it .380s for a little less pop. If you do go glock though, don't fire straight lead through it, the barrels don't like non jacketed bullets.

a double action revolver...don't have to worry about loading and taking it out of safety...the gun is always ready...point and shoot...

I will be the primary shooter of the pistol, I had all my guns stolen a few years back and I am trying to start replacing them. I never really needed a pistol, but the way things have gotten I want to carry one all the time. How much difference in accuracy is there between a 4'' and 5'' barrel?

I'd say 9mm, either a glock or beretta px4. My ol lady loves the px4, it feels like you're shooting a bb gun and it has the external safety the glock doesn't. If you go with a 9mm I'd suggest stocking up real good on ammo. If another panic hits, you can forget about getting 9mm ammo unless you wanna camp out at the sporting goods store like they do for Iphones.

I wouldn't worry about it between four and five. Your probably not going to be shooting from far enough for it to matter.

Only reason I suggested it was because the OP said he was teaching them to shoot. Ive had a 90lbs girl shoot my 454 casull, but shes been shooting for years, if she was brand new that cannon woulda scared the chit outta her and she probably wouldn't have shot anything ever again.. ![Wink](http://www.easttexashogdoggers.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I went thru police academy with several women of different sizes and most thought they could handle a 40 caliber. But only one was able to get qualified, the rest had to go to a 9mm
