Im thinking about doing away with my raised kennels and pouring a concrete slab come tax return time. The one thing I would like to do either way is install a septic system. Anyone that has one if you could post some pics and some details on how you have it hooked up to the kennels would be great. Ive got an idea for the two 55gal barrel style septic system just cant figure on how to hook it up to the pens.

Im toying with the same idea. Got a guy I deer hunt with that used a piece of 6 or 8" RDS pipe (the greenish colored PVC) laid behind the kennel against the slab and then cut out the top side to catch all the waste. This could then be run to your burried 55 gal drum

Thought about that, but wonder how you get it angled to run to the system and still catch all the waste.

Start it high on the far end. A lil more expensive, but lay the pipe whole, and then mark and cut it. So you wont be necessarily be cutting it in half. And you'd actually end up with a kind of back stop so you squirt the poo right over it

You should only need (I think) a 1/4" in 4' of fall.

I don't know how many dogs your housing, but I would think if over 1, the 55 gal drum thing isn't going to work. I put at 1,750 gallon system at my kennels and wish I had put larger. I have twelve pens that go into mine. I'd have to search back through old posts but I put up one when I built my kennels 3 or 4 years ago and told how I did it.

If your going to pour concrete form a trough in the back with a floor drain at one end then 90 into your barrel but you need some field line and if you plan on washing the poo down prolly need a bigger tank and use some rid x quite often

I was thinking of building one out of those square plastic tote deals. I was going to use 2 of them, but I was wondering if that would be enough... It'll have to take about 10-15 dogs at a time. You think that'll work or no??? Ima find the website I was going to model mine off of.

growing up, we used 2 55gal drum for our house septic system. dug 1 big hole, and made a step down for 1 barrel to sit 10" lower than the 1st barrel. just below the top of the 1st barrel, my dad cut a 6" hole for a 6" pvc pipe. he put a 90 on the pipe and cut a 6" hole in the top of the other barrel and stubbed the 90 in the hole, cut another 6" hole on the other side of the top for the discharge pipe. with my dads new house, he dug a 10'x10'x6' hole, we put a 6" pipe on the downhill side for a discharge line. we put chicken wire up a couple inches off the sides and bottoms. mixed up sack-create with a putty like consistency and applied it to the bottom and half way up the sides first, let it dry a day and finished the sides up the next day. don't know how much crap it will hold, but he has been in his new house 14yrs and has yet to have to clean it out and EVERYTHING (black and gray water) goes into it.

Again dog poo don't break down so you would either have to dig the can out or have it pumped out a lot. I think the idea of having a septic to keep the smell down is a lot but being convenient is more of the reason I have it. I don't want to have to put lime down all the time or use a box blade to pull it away or any other pain in the but work if I ain't got to.

Be careful on this guys. Especially with admitting to what you have. Its aginst the law to install a system if your not licensed. Groundwater board will get that a**. I dont believe its an "in town only" permit either. It gos for everyone, everywhere. My dads business partner is licensed, ill check on it.

The groundwater board can eat the peanuts outa my dogs poo if they have a problem with it. What the difference in just washing onto the ground or having a septic to catch it n have it pumped out? Just another way for the government to squeeze every penny out of the citizens.

In Florida you do not have to pull a permit for dog pen septic systems
