I have a 5 1/2 month old male cat/bluetick cross. Doing well with using his nose and hunting when I drag a hog leg for him. I took him hunting Sunday to just kinda let him ride the wheeler. We got a small boar hog early and held the pigs back legs and turned my pup loose with the other dogs to try and get him to bay some and he was absolutely scared to death. Will he get more aggressive with age?

Was this the first time he saw a live pig? Some pups fire up on a live pig early, some later. I've got a 2 yr. old female that didn't fire up on a pig in a pen till she was about 8 mths. old. About every 3 weeks I showed her a pig in a pen and she showed no interest. One day a switch flipped and it was on . She turned out to be very gritty. I have a 6 month old pup off of her that shows little interest but since his mom started late, I'm just being patient and letting him be a pup.

you don't happen to own a smaller breed dog like a terrier or other feisty type dog do you?
The reason I ask is because myself along with a few others on this site that I have talked with use the same method and I can honestly say it has helped get my pups up and going at an earlier age. I have a jack russell terrier and we keep her outside in the puppy pen during the day and in the house at night.......over time the pups form a bond with her and will follow her anywhere and do anything she does given the chance........ its pretty much a monkey see, monkey do type thing. The pups raise up with her following her and learning from her, the first time we show em a hog she is there and so far she has successfully helped fire up 5 pups for me out of 2 different litters within minutes. I believe that The pups don't even really realize that they are doing what they are doing, I think that they gain a certain level of confidence and that "pack mentality" watching her work and fall into place baying with her. before you know it the jack russell isn't even needed anymore and the pups are doing it on their own.......
its deff. not the only way as I just recently started using this method myself but after watching it work for other guys numerous times I decided to adopt it and I have been pleased so far with the results!
if nothing else try penning your pup with another dog that is already baying, the buddy system works well for starting young dogs. best of luck.
