Got a new rifle for valentines Day gift. A ruger 44/77 . So my question is what 44 mag ammo will not pass through a hog...so as to not hit a dog. I carry a pistol for emergencies, but im not a trick shot with it at all, but im very handy with a rifle., and need it to when I get tge itch to bay and shoot.

A friend of mine shoots deer with the Hornady LEVERevolution round. 225 grain FX. Says he's shot deer at different ranges and no pass troughs. Max expansion on bullet and drops them in their tracks. There is not going to be much to choose from. Most 44 mag factory Ammo shot from close
range will pass through.

This is my gun of choice when I bay and shoot. I just the lead nose regular bullets you buy at walmart. I shoot em in the shoulder. Haven't had one run and the bullet stays in em for the most part.

Chrck out the frangible (sp) bullets like used for shooting on acft n even some home defence rounds are/were frangibles. They may not offer that style in .44, but the 9mm, .40, 5.56 come in frangibles.

I would go with a hollow point vs a solid. I shoot a 35 rem. I get pass throughs on hogs.

Kerry. Use 44mag ammo in the 180-210gr hollow point. Look at what scores the best for protection work against people out of a 44mag. My choice would be Remington 180jp, or Winchester 210 Silvertips. I think they had the best street score for one shot stops and least amount of over penetration.

Have fun with the new gone. That gun with a silencer and sub sonic ammo would be great fun here in Florida at night on hogs.

spot on I use self defence ammo (winch 125 jhp) in my 357m rifle and it works a treat...stay away from the pointed stuff its too hard and will exit
