I've never been around any. Never really liked hunting like that. But landowners want to make a showing. So was thinking about trying them. I hunt horseback alot. My question is " what do y'all breed to make the best rcd's"?

I don't make a habbit of it but would definatly go with a. Pit/lepoard or pit/cur cross.

I have seen several different crosses. I personally run a ridgeback pit cross. I have seen YBMC that were pretty much straight catch RCD. I have also seen straight catahoula that were the same. Most that I have seen were something crossed with a bull dog.

This is all I run they find catch and hold. I have running right now a cat two ridge/pit crosses and my ridgeback. My female ridge is rough and can throw her or a gritty bay dog In also.  Depends on how where you hunt if your hunting horseback im guessing you can get most places pretty quick might try a deerhound cross or stag hound cross type dog.  I have 2 deer hound cross puos that the male is a catching maching at 7 months old and female is getting there.   There is lots of options it more boils down to what you want in a dog

Pure bred Plotts
mr mike i like a good plott. Best plott I owned come from mr. Barry tarelton. But plotts and horses don't mix. I about killed a couple horses trying to keep up with plotts. My curs aren't that rough and they don't stick that well on runners. They run a mile or so and come back. Seems when the hogs bay they don't bay long enough to get a catch dog to em anymore. I have plans on getting a couple julys to cross in also. Thanks for all y'all's help

The cur dogs only sticking a mile is the problem you Anit running them long enough to make them bay ,

The problem you will run in to with RCD is that unless your other dogs catch with him the hog still go an get away if it has any size to it because he Anit gonna be able to stay caught a long time by him self , it's better to have RCD when the other dogs will catch an stay caught with it

Have you thought maybe about huntin one loose dog ??
Sometimes that works better than rough dogs hogs sit down an bay better if you have one good loose dog on them

was having trouble with runners. started running a couple good strike dogs with two RCD that hang pretty close until they hear a bark. havent had one run off on those two yet. wouldnt work out too well if the terrain was such that you would be a while getting to them but its worked well for us. One of the RCDs is ridgeback x cat (my favorite) and the other is pit x cat. I also wouldnt have only one rcd.

D, you either have some very fast RCDs or some very slow runners!!!!!  Grin

Got a full catahoula male which is rough as hell. Then a cat/pit female which is a RCD. Then a 7mon cat/pit male  thats turning into a good RCD. I need this combination becuz the land i hunt on is small and need the pigs stopped quick. If you need them stopped quick thats the way to do it with a RCD. Saves a lot of energy lol.

I usually hunt one loose strike dog.  He will catch with other dogs. My thought was to put several rcd's with him and try to stay close and stoppem pretty quick. Just trying to see what works for y'all. I could always get on a buggy and hunt hounds but I sure do like my horse.

All my dogs catch stopping them ain't a problem it's when they bay and run bay and run that's where a good loose dog that stays hooked comes in real handy if he stops long enough he will pay the price
