Have any of you ever had a 5 to 6 month old male sucessfully breed a female? The reason that im asking is becuase I had a male pup that I was keeping in my female pen becuase I assumed that he was too young to breed. Well his grandmother turned up bred and had 6 pups. She had got out of her pen once and I know that our Catahoula got to her because a few of her pups are spotted. The other pups are yellow and red just like momma and grandson. Was I wrong thinking that he was too young?

well I posted 2 different links I found online, both of which (along with multiple others) said yes they CAN breed at as early as 5 months but that they weren't sexually mature and that their sperm would be weaker sometimes resulting in smaller litters of pups or no pups at all, I have no idea why it didn't post.

Thank you for the responses yall. I hate to say it but im hoping at least a couple of the pups came from her grandson. His grandmother Sweetpea is a proven hog dog who passes her genes on to her puppies but we have never had any superstars come from our catahoula. Her granson on the other hand. Parents both are good dogs. Red and Penny. Hahaha if they are from her grandson, she will be the puppies mother/great grandmother/ great aunt.
