It's pure hard work when you win one, and pure dumb luck when the other guy does.  laugh

HE DIDNT SAY . THIS GUY DIDNT KNOW THAT MY TEAM WON . A JUDGE IS SENT WITH TEAMS . I LET HIM TALK AND DIDNT SAY ANYTHING. WE ONLY CAUGHT 10 HOGS . I HAVE CAUGHT 6 IN 30 MINUTES BEFORE. THIS TOURNAMENT IS TOTAL WEIGHT ALL YOU CAN CATCH.

THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PUTS THE TOURNAMENT ON . THEY PUT A JUDGE WITH THE TEAMS . MY POINT IS THE PEOPLE THAT COMPLAIN THINK THEY CAN TAKE 10 DOGS AND 2 THOUSAND AC   AND COMPETE . THATS NOT ENOUGH LAND OR DOG POWER TO HUNT  TWO FULL DAYS .THATS LIKE GOING TO A GUN FIGHT WITH A KNIFE. THEY CANT COMPETE  SO THEY THINK WE CHEAT .

Ten dogs ? That's more then enough to hunt for two days.

Kind of a tuff question to answer.  I guess if you have a good place that has a lot of good hogs that have not been dogged a bunch, a few dogs and a couple good bulldogs could catch a bunch of hogs in a a couple days-enough to win a tournament, IDK?  So if you are in this good spot and catch 20+ hogs, you may be in good shape, considering you don't have to hunt 24 hour straight.

If you are not this fortunate and you have fewer hogs or you have to hunt several places to put a good stringer together, 2 dogs is not going to get it done if you are hunting hard over 24 hours.

I'm sure that different tournament winners have won with different strategies, but I'm sure every winner had good spots that were holding hogs.

Plain and simple. The haters are gonna hate! If you roll out with 30 dogs, plenty of land to hunt, and put in the time and work, you're gonna do well. That said, you could go out with that many dogs, that much land, and hunt that long and not catch a single hog. It's called HUNTING, not CATCHING. i believe that many dogs and that much land increases your chances to catch more hogs. Folks shouldn't question your honor though, that could make you go all crazy ex-friend.

I have hunted one lil tournament and won with average dogs and really good spots plan and simple we just had a better weekend where luck was on our side and everything went like it should have for once if luck is not on your side you can have the best dogs in the world and not have the outcome you hoped for jmo though and there is always a sore loser or two

I agree with the luck theory! Land has a hell of alot to do with it as well. You can take the best dog you ever had to a 20,000 acre spot in west texas, hunt all weekend and not catch a pig one. At the same time, take one dog to a mud hole on a 200 acre place and catch 5 in an hour. We are living proof of that. We caught 10 pigs off a wheat field during the hooligan hoggers hunt last month, 5 of wich we weighed in our stringer. Caught them all without the need of "jam up" strike dogs, nor top quality catch dogs. We had them, but could have done the same with poodles. We were just at the right spot at the right time. Big hogs were there and we got them. We were hunting aginst teams with THOUSANDS of acres and dogs that I would claim as the best iv hunted behind, and we beat them by hundred+ pounds.

LUCK! Been on hunts with 6000 acres and caught one hog, and a week later hunt a 200 acre place an catch three in ten mins while watching 30 more cross the property line (two of which weighed well over 300#. Right place, right time, decent dogs and a good crew that will show up for weigh in haha
