There were a couple teams that failed polygraphs this weekend in two different contest that I know of. Not sure why people think they should cheat. The problem is how many contest have they won money in and cheated without getting caught?? This serves them right!!! No walking around this year bragging about how they beat everyone and how their dogs are better than everyone elses. If you cant play fair dont play!!! I can take a whipping but do it honest!

Ive taken two polygraphs in my life, both for work.  And both showed I lied about the same thing on both of them, which even if I had done, it would have been a none issue.  Lord as my witness I told the truth.  The way them things work is blood pressure and heart rate.  My sister passed one for a government job and they told her no one is ever that honest, and wouldn't hire her.  Two things about a lie detector, they are never 100 percent accurate and it all depends on who running it and determines what is an acceptable read out.

I have been hooked to one with a air force polygraph expert on the other end. Nerve racking is an understatement. I passed thank god because it was far more important than a hunting contest. The key part is the base line questions. Without a good base line the rest is irrelevant. In our tournament the end of this week we will have the AR state police performing the polygraph test. I would figure they are pretty well qualified to administer the test. A important fact in these test is the specific question asked. Have u stole anything isn't specific enough because if u realize u stole a piece of candy as a kid but answer no it will show as a lie.

I've taken one for work and it was one of the most nerve racking things I've ever done.  I've never liked the idea of them because they are not 100% accurate.  They are a good scare tactic though.

Our countries have a lot in common but I think this is something where we differ (other Aussie's chime in if you feel I'm wrong)....

I hope that people don't take this the wrong way (especially those who run contests), you see us Aussie's are a competitive bunch but well "having a go" or competing is the main thing and more important than winning, we are not a win at all costs society - we can't take ourselves seriously enough for that.

BUT -  I think its sad that a friendly hunting competition has degenerated into something where cheating is considered the norm to a point where the winners are subject to a test?  Really

There are a few hunting comps here but the winners usually receive hunting products and the proceeds go to charity.  I hope we never get to the point here when the winners are immediatley under suspicision.  For me, I wouldn't enter a hunting contest knowing that if I won then I'd be subject to a test.  If the organisers can take my money to enter then they could take my word for it (and my teams) that what we caught we did so within the rules.

Wow I saw someone mention a polygraph in another thread, I thought he was just messing around. They really make you guys take a poly? HAHAHAHAHA NICE! Maybe some of these other sports should follow suit to hog hunting.

The poly in my mind serves the same purpose as a lock. It keeps honest folks honest. There are plenty of folks here trying to make a name for theirselves in one way or another. Today everyone wants to be famous even if it's only in a 30 mile radius. Just look at any social media and even here on this page. Everyone has a crew and thinks their crew is the best around. The old guys aren't for the most part doing this. It's the younger guys. A few older guys are just as bad. The money is not the real prize it's the bragging rights. If I was not an officer in the ADHA I woulda entered the tournament for S&H'/s and giggles. I wouldn't have cared if I won. I hunt because I love it. I dang sure ain't gonna get paid or get famous for hog hunting with world class dillo dogs. We the ADHA chose to do the poly test to help ensure fairness and prevent the possibility that someone could accuse our event of being rigged. We went as far as excluding all officers from competing. We have outside independent judges for all events from treeing to weigh in.

A polygraph is a good deterrent for competitors in any competition. Actually, I agree on everyone s comments earlier stated. A polygraph can be beaten if someone answers their baseline questions a certain way. By controlling your heart rate and blood pressure/putting a certain amount of stress on your body while answering the question. I do not personally feel the tests are accurate because of this. I entered a contest on Feb 28th. I will never enter another hog dog contest again. Sorry, it was not for me and not for the group of dogs I run. I run all RCD's and normally kill hogs that I catch. Not take them alive. It was a task to pull 8 catch dogs off of a 200 lb sow and hobble it. by the time i got it hobbled and loaded in the trailer, it died. Anything 150 lbs and below, my dogs kill before I even get there. With that being said, I saw hogs brought into the weigh in that had no scratches, no marks, no limps, and no sign where a dog had even been near it. I found it hard to believe that they were caught by dogs. Maybe, herded by bay dogs into a funnel fence or something. There is no way, even if you had just one bulldog, there would be marks on the ear/ leg/snout of the hogs. I can pass a polygraph, but I am a honest person. I would never take anything away from what someone else earned. I also hunted all free ranging hogs. The rules said no high game fence but later I heard someone talk about it was legal to hunt a low fence. I have 2 questions for you guys because I don't do competitions. 1-What is a low fence? and 2-how do people catch hogs that don't have marks on them like they didn't use catch dogs? I catch and kill hogs all the time, I have never had a bay dog, and never had a dog that wouldn't bite a hog. I don't know how other people hunt and I'm curious

Hatchet u need to hunt our tournament. All hogs must be dead. We checked each hog weighed for signs of catch dogs. I was actually looking one hogs ears over and couldn't find any signs. Well I called attention to it. Then someone pointed out the fact that the snout was broke. Oops

Not sure if all tournaments do it but a polygraph based on voice is not one I would base my judgment on.

It is very possible to catch a hog and not leave marks on the ears if you get to it quick enough.

Agreed red 79, that's why i said I'll never hunt another competition again. I have all running catch dogs. That's how I catch my hogs. I have 1 bulldog that will rip the snout off of a 150lb hog faster than anyone can make it through the brush to get to him. I timed him the other day, 1 minute and 51 seconds from the first squeal to the last breath. when your hunting thicket, you have to pretty much crawl up to the hog and I just cant crawl faster than 1 minute and 51 seconds through rose hedge. Maybe, the hogs in my area are a little bit different than everywhere else, I have no Idea. I've spent my whole life hunting where I'm at. I've been on hogs that all 8 of my catch dogs couldn't hold. If anyone here has ever caught a free ranging boar hog over 250 lbs with dogs, you know it is a completely different animal.
