It was in the news that Louisiana has found some kind of chemical that will poison hogs & doesn't poison any other animals. It is some sort of preservative that is used in meat processing. It takes the oxygen out of their blood & kills them in 30 minutes after eating this stuff. This is good news to some but bad news to us hog hunters.I hope this is BS but i'm afraid it isn't.

It's out there already. Texas Parks Wildlife has it and doing research as we speak. They have boxes that hogs can root the door open but deer don't. Once the hogs die anything that eats them is not effected. The only way it's gonna stop is when the deer hunter find a Boone and crockett trophy that has been poisoned. They don't need much land because once they start feeding hogs good they will come for miles and then start poisoning. If I find the box I'm gonna wire it open and that will stop the process. The video of this poisoning is on YouTube

i'd say you would kill everything else in the woods before you would poison a hog .

They r not going to poison everything else because of the way hogs can lift the lid and other animals can't. I hope it never gets released but they r doing a lot of research so I'm sure it will. Has anyone other than me seen the video in Texas yet.

We have bears here, surely they wouldn't try that around here. If a hog can get it open, a bear easily can.

I'm sure the bear deal will be a show stopper. It will probably be certain areas. I didn't like it the minute I started watching it.

Read the article in the link below. It will only affect pigs. They are planning on putting the salt compound into strawberry flavored gelatin bait cubes then coating it in wax to protect it from rain before being distributed in the wild. This article mentions no boxes or feeders that the pigs will have to open to get to it. All other animals carry an enzyme that prevents them from being affected. It's just a type of salt that causes death in pigs within 30 minutes because their red blood cells lose the ability to carry oxygen to different tissues in the body. http://theadvocate.com/home/8616467-125/agcenter-explores-new-way-to

All I know is timik will kill about anything. A hog will not eat it regardless of what u put it on. I was always told a hog won't eat anything that will kill them. All I can say is if this whole thing don't get the PETA folks going nothing will.

The goverment an alot of farmers poision pigs hear in aus an its very effective at killing them an cheap compeared to heli shooting. They have poision that u pour on dead animals an stuff to soak grain an even artificial make little blocks u can put out just depending on where u live to what u r aloud to use. We only have pigs an wild dogs that will eat it hear thow ( apart from poisioning grain). I think it would be alot harder to poision over their so u mite be lucky an not have to deal with it. I know people that still hunt somewhere that have just been baited with rigging dogs coz they r only getting off the ute when they smell pigs, but i personaly wouldnt risk it u as only have to lose a dog while hunting an have it woundering around half a night or a day an it mite come across a bait. plus the baits stay active till u get a good fall of rain on them! Cross your fingers they dont figure out how to do it their.

One biologist told me awhile back, that whatever will poison a hog would poison a bear. This was back before this stuff was tested I'm sure.
