Not all hunters that sell dogs are dog traders and most hunters raise the best dogs. That being said Mr Mason is first and formost a hunter that is why he raises such good dogs, but there are many others that do to.
There are several questions that would have to be asked, since your post is unclear as to what you want. Breed Age Type Hunting style Ability The list can go on. If you got stung before you will again if you dont know what to ask. Have you used dogs before in any fashion? Where are you located? How will you hunt? These are all questions a good dog man/woman will ask you or should ask you when you are looking for a dog, and more.
To group hunters in with dog traders just means you have dealt with the wrong people before and as a hunter no my dogs wouldnt be cheap but they do have the experiance. At the same time there are many that claim they do it for a living and that means 0, my point is, its not the title that a person is given or claims to have that matters it is their moral values that count the most. You can be riped off by the best hunter just like you can from a dog trader or someone that claims to breed and train dogs.
All that being siad I told JC from Uglydog the other night that if I were to look at buying a dog other than something I raised it would be from Mr. Mason. But again there are many others that raise and train great dogs.
Lionandboarhunter on here rasies some very good dogs but he is a "hunter" like I am. Longshot on here is getting some good lines going, again a "hunter". JJB on here has some jam up dogs but again a "hunter". Get the picture? That is just a couple I can name from my area.

It's hard to be fooled by someone if you hunt behind the dog before you hand over the cash. Dog trader, trainer, hunter....They all have good dogs and bad. Just depends on what exactly you are looking for in a dog.
I won't endorse anyone, as they may not have the type of dogs you are looking for....Can't answer your questions about who might be a good trainer, until you say what you want in a dog. There may be the best dog trainer in the world hunting the gulf coast marsh, but if you are hunting the dry country in west Texas, his dogs might not do much for you...

Just currious, what was the problem with the dog you are reffering to and why two shock collars?

I have seen and hunted with bad dogs from some breeders, and seen and been on the wrong end of some SERIOUS dog trading from certain people that i thought were supposed to be the top of the totom poll when it comes to training and raising good dogs that i will never recommend buying dogs from, so to each his own but will not recommend you buy a dog just based on reputation of the person, rememeber breeders and trainers that sell dogs do just that and it is a source of income for them even though most say it isnt . With that said find a dog that is worth buying and GO HUNT WITH THE DOG BEFORE BUYING THE DOG!!! If someone has a dog that is that good then they will not have a problem taking you to watch the dog hunt. There is alot of good honest people on this board and most of them are not breeders just good ol boys that like to hunt.

does any one know how i can get up with this mr mason, i live in alabama and if someone is selling a dog theres a reason i have bought alot of dogs from around here in this state and aint none of them been worth killing, im not gonna talk about anyones dogs but the ones that were trained in a pen came from texas they had more hunt than anything i seen in a long time but we couldnt hog hunt for running deer two shock collars batteries would be dead when we got back to the truck, im sure theres the kinda dog i want some where out there, i dont want one that have to worry about running over with the four wheeler and not gonna just hit a raod and run for miles for the hell of it one that is gonna get out and hunt and come back, when 1st hog is caught dog is gone again must be silent and not to gritty if i could get hooked up with a good dog man i could sell everygood dog hes got around here cause u cant buy any around here but if anyone could give me a way to get up with this mr mason that would be appreciated

i could'nt buy a good dog either so i made my own. it took about 6 years. ive had a little bit of every thing. finaly got lucky on a couple of peoples plott and bmc culls. they were not perfect but would run a track and had enough grit. i just kept showing them hog sign. i would walk them til i found sign then cut em loose. now i can free cast without trashing.the main thing i look for ,will the dog go hunting.cant stand 1 under my feet.cause its rare that the hog will be under my feet. if they got sense, will hunt an got some grit u got something to work with. be warey of great bay pen stock it might be just that.the 2 dogs i paid the most money for in the past i have since given away.my best now was $130 but was just raw talent then.2nd was$100 and was just as good then as she is now.just got lucky.its more satisfying to do it yourself but alot harder.either way theres nothing like hunting with and reaping the rewards of a good dog.good luck!

mr. mason trained one of my gyps and she is a well-rounded dog.
he hunts them in the woods too, sounds like that's what you prefer.
