I don't take my stuff with me. I drop everything on me before I cross a fence that way if the land owner comes out I can assure them I'm not poaching.

I wonder how many point their dogs towards the fence or let them go at the fence...I guess that may be another thread.

If my dogs cross a fence and bay, I try to get permission first, then go second.  If they cross a fence and don't bay, I wait; there is a good chance they go through the property or loop around.

Only reason for me to immediately cross a fence if I believe dogs may go to goats, farm pigs, or some other defenseless animals.

I gotta follow em through it, as long as I ain't cuttin nobody's fence down around here they don't have a problem with it. If the landowner tells us we can go and to make a gap I usually go with them back there and watch them cut the fence, too many people have cut fence around here in the past and gotten other people in trouble not having permission and someones cows or horses come up missing

I just start hunting on the other side of the fence its where all the hogs are right? Its not the property you have its the property around it that makes it good haha

I think too many people now a days use there dogs as an excuse to trespass. If my dogs are bayed I always try to get permission. Just because they crossed a fence isn't enough reason to trespass. In my opinion I think that's why hog doggers have a bad reputation.

I do not hunt a place unless i have at least 2k acres. with my dogs they will get off anything less. Only way I hunt less is if I have previous permission from land owners to retrieve my dogs. Then I walk... Don't cut fences, pull staples, or anything like it I walk my happy a$$ whether it be 200 yards or 2miles. Too many people are way too lazy to use their 2 feet, and I believe that is why hog hunters have the bad rep they have...

I don't give a damn how many k's you have a dog cant read no trespass signs or knows any better than crossing fences you will wind up in the wrong place if you have good dogs doesn't mean your wrong for going and getting your dogs if they are doing what they are trained to do!!!!

As long as you do everything you can to stop them then your right, I don't think retrieving your dogs is wrong. But the fella who's land you could be on may think different, and the GW doesn't give a $hit if the dogs can read or not. It also boils down a lot to character. Be where you belong and don't be where you don't belong. It's whats right.

Find out as many land owners in the area. And usually they all know each other or know of each other. They can vouch for you sometimes and have your back. As far as going in after them, heck yeh I am. Swam the Angelina earlier today after they stopped one 50 yards on the other side of the river.

I try to have permission before I go on all of the neighboring properties.

Most tell me to go get your dogs and I will be mad if you don't kill the hog.

Keeping a good reputation is top priority for me.

That's what I do. I will get permission from adjacent land owners or leases I hunt to atleast retrieve my dogs. That question has gained me access to hunt that property as well. Then I ask his adjacent land owners or leeses until I get the retrieve only answer for all adjoining property. Then I go hunt. It may take me several weeks to contact them all before I hunt a place but the original owner is usually pleased I make that effort and helps me gain access. In today's world of very little respect for others and their property. Reputation is worth more than real good dogs.

In Louisiana law says you have permission to go get your dog in Texas you do not have permission unless you contact the landowner!! It is always better to try to get permission even if the law says you can go get them. Some people believe just be cause they give you permission to go get your dogs mean you can hunt it!! there will always be people that play by the rules and those that don't. I try do live my life doing what is right!! But I am wrong most of the time!!!
