Why bother telling the world that your gonna break the law if your dogs do?
Do whatever you gotta do, but there's no need to talk about it on the Internet.

This was the first thought to cross my mind before this thread every had a response.  Why tell the world that you blatantly intend to break the law?

Well I just built me an electric bobwire kennell, and painted the corner post purple, also make sure to beat my dogs 3 times daily with a no treaspass sign. So I don't run into these problems!  Grin problem solved!

I say that if your dogs cross a fence and you don't have the # to the landowner adjacent to your pastures or even adjacent to the place adjacent to your pastures, then you're either lazy, ignorant or just don't care about your dogs' well being. Do some research and talk to the landowners around you and you might not have to end up sharing your places with other hog hunters. This ain't Open Range and you sir are no Kevin Costner. Either do it legit or save your money and go buy Cabelas Dangerous Game for Xbox.

If mine cross a fence I follow them what do y'all say!

Quotes like this on a public forum is the reason I feel like I spend more time defending our reputation and keeping property then I actually get to run.....Doggers have a certain sterotype and the ol timers also have a sterotype of certain groups of kids that run around town dog boxes loaded down.....I will just leave it at that..

Fully agree with this response.  Their is nothing wrong with being a hog hunter and having class and ethics too.  I love the comment about kids running around with dog boxes- so true!!!  Lots of people out there think their image is big and bad because they are a "hog hunter".  LOL

I don't give a damn how many k's you have a dog cant read no trespass signs or knows any better than crossing fences you will wind up in the wrong place if you have good dogs doesn't mean your wrong for going and getting your dogs if they are doing what they are trained to do!!!!

You are part of the problem.

If you know you have long dogs or dogs with bottom and put them on a property that is evident is too small to run them on than, it's not the dogs fault it's the owners, dogs absolutely do not read no trespassing signs and that's why we have to be held responsible for the positions we put them in,
A dog that truly hunts it's backside of doesn't need to be on a small property surrounded by places it cannot be. It is all the same to thr dog but the owner should know better.
This thread is a subject the probably shouldn't have been brought up in the public

If I'm on a property where I know there is even a remote chance of the dogs crossing a fence, I contact the neighboring land owners PRIOR to hunting to let them know what I'm doing and what time I'll be hunting/finishing. Makes things much easier when they do cross a fence and the land owners appreciate the heads up. Showing a neighboring land owner that you are a responsible hunter will get you access to more land. My question is, why wouldn't you take the time to cover all your bases, be prepared and do everything legally? If you don't take the time and make an effort to do these sorts of things you risk hurting the reputation of our sport.

I follow my dogs everywhere they go, but I also know where they are going.  I have already made contact at some point and time with all the landowners around and ask them if my dogs go in their place, if I can retrieve them.  They all say yes, and to kill the pig as well.  I check with them now and again just to make sure everything is ok, and so far all of them say no need to come back and ask, if the dogs go there, go get em and kill that dang pig!

I would worry way to much if I didn't know any landowners around, and my dogs went in there.  All it takes is one mad landowner to end up shooting all of your dogs.

From the responses on this thread I believe it has for the most part shown  we respect the neighbors. It also shows the up and comers the proper way to do things.

If my dogs are caught. Well I'm crossing the fence regardless of where it is. But if it's a bay I'll try and get permission first. Just depends on the situation.

Absolutely, it is Definently good that if wandering eyes cane to this thread that 90% of response entail getting permission or in some fashion showing respect landowners to lighten our image.
And Definently good for younger or just new hunters to see an example of character to go by.
But on the same note it is something everyone who hunts has to do at one point or another and ranks right along with culling in my opinion when it comes to being appropriate for the internet or not, ya know what I'm saying?
But that is just my .02 cents.

I have a couple dogs I can't take hunting everytime because their so hard to get back and it would be impossible to contact all the surrounding land owners because it's just no telling where they will go. I do not take these dogs during deer season or turkey season because of their ways. But after deer and turkey season I'll be able to start taking them to some places where they can go whichever way they want and be ok. But it's no way I could take them knowing I might not could get them back before daylight in turkey season it's just a responsibility I have as a dog owner. As far as going get them where they go yea I'm going but I try not to take high power dogs to a place where the joining landowner is a prick and hates dogs I'll usually just take some young dogs or something like that to them places. When I was 16 or so I loved to hunt and really didn't have a place to hunt that was full of hogs so I would just about hunt anywhere I thought it was hogs and didn't think I would see anyone but as I got older for the most part I got out of that it's just not worth it to me to hunt somewhere I think I might get a dog shot or me get in a lot of trouble.  I'm just as happy not going run a hog a couple of hours where I'm suppose to be as I would be in catching 10 somewhere I'm not suppose to be.

I'll cross the fence when I hear a hog squealing. I run the opposite direction if I hear a cow mooing.
