Had a visit with a Lee County man Saturday nite in the WMA. My dogs ran a cat out of hearing so I ventured back to the truck for some refreshment figuring it may be awhile. He drove past me, turned around and pulled in behind me with the Q-Beams on. He did some serious questioning about what I was doing, how I knew my dogs were after a cat, did I mean house cat or bobcat, why I had no problem going into the woods by myself after dark, etc. Anyhow after hearing my dogs coming back and obviously finally believing my story, he asked me how often I go out to the WMAs there and if I ever see anybody. I said "About twice a week and no, people are way more afraid of the woods at nite than they like to admit". In a very concerned and straightforward tone he informed me that drugs were a big problem around there and to please be very careful. He said there were a lot of people watching the WMAs because of meth and he couldn't believe I havent seen anybody, law folks or junkies. He asked that I please call them or the Wardens if I ever saw anybody out there that looked like they didn't belong because they needed the help. I reminded him that I been doing this since I was a boy, and that if someone is in the woods at nite, and they aint obviously dog hunters or otherwise, something is wrong. Like I said, people are scared of the dark.
If a guy can't coon or hog hunt or whatever because of meth heads, something is bad wrong. Now I might be getting a little scared of the dark.
