Well, this weekend I drove 5.5 hours to go hunt a 4400 acre high fence that supposedly has a hog problem. This ranch is located in carizo springs. We stopped in at dilley to eat lunch and low and behold there was two trucks and trailers full of dogs and wheeler. Come to find out these guys are going to the ranch too. As we start to order two more truck loads show up. During the meal they are all talking about ole so and so are already at the ranch.... i was boiling mad to say the least!! After we ate lunch i told the owner see ya! Luckily i have a good friend an hour from there and we still got a few good hunts in. (Thanks JP) ::Smiley
Anyhow i was kind of wondering if any of the guys that were at the resturant in dilley friday are on this board?

should have just dropped in with them, I think that landowner wanted his hogs gone even worse than he was worried about his deer hitting the fences. laugh

That's what I'm saying. May have been a cluster but could have been a blast if the right attitude was had.

Man I dunno about all that, I would have more than likely backed out as well............it COULD be fun with the right attitude, I agree with that BUT it could also turn into a complete cluster and with that many people and dogs all going lets just face it, there would end up being alotta dogs on the ground....... confusion causes problems.

I believe I had " the right attitude"... I am a hog hunter and don't need to prove anything. I hunt my dogs a certain way and that is the only way I will hunt them. Too many people, too many dogs and too many buggies is just not my way.

I agree with you. I would've done the same thing. If the guy was so arrogant that he was just gonna surprise blitz you that way, there is no reason to think that he isn't going to raise hell and point fingers when somebody screws something up be it property, livestock, or equipment. You don't know anyone else's dogs. Their dogs just might get your dogs wrecked, killed, or even trash. Your dogs could wind up with some dummy shooting over them anything. Too many bad possibilities. I like hunting with new folks and seeing how other people do things, but in a controlled situation.

Do you know this owner?  Did he tell you others were coming?

Sounds like some miscommunication for sure.

...but I agree.  I would have went elsewhere.  If you had an understanding with the owner that you were coming out to do some hog control on his place,  and feel like you were misled I'd be tempted to send a bill for your fuel and time.

You should have went.  I bet all those guys had yappy open mouth dogs and they would have "never" bayed a hog.  You could go with some closed mouth dogs and catch all the hogs yourself!   Wink Wink

Bryant, this whole deal was set up by a friend. Hindsight is 20/20 i should have called and talked to the landowner myself. The miscomunication was no one telling me it was a party and me not being given the chance to ask if i was the only one coming.

Hoghunter71409, all of my dogs give mouth or are open. The quote you are trying to jab me with was a joke. So u can get un wadded now. Wink

Im good- by the looks of the posts you spend 2/3rd more time on here than I do.  I dont keep up with the jokers and politics.  I get on here once in a while and I respond/comment to what I see and read in that thread.  I dont normally go back and read other people's post to figure out who they are or what they have.  The post I jabbed at was stupid-so I replied.

I'm glad I backed out on that trip... I'd have been a mad mofo driving 6 hours to show up to the circus. Evil

Wow, Most high fence landowners have a hard enough time letting one group of doggers on their place. Can't imagine letting 4-5 at one time go. Bet there wasn't a dry tire on the whole damn place after that.

I hunt a 4000 acre high fence and there have been plenty of times we covered the whole place in a day. I dont think i'd have hunted with that many people on the same place either. But that being said, I also would have worked it out to go in and hunt the place the next day after everyone had left and caught all the hogs they missed too.  Grin

I'd have back out too. I will not drop my dogs where I know there are multiple packs of other dogs I don't know running. At least it wasn't a completely wasted trip though!
