Anybody ever read them. I just recently finished the second one and they really put me in check when it came to training pups. I've always had a pretty decent turnover rate but realized just how many dogs I have screwed up or culled way to early. I know they are based on training a coon dog but some of his tips can be EXTREMELY helpful and I recommend them to anyone

Yes sir. There's plenty of knowledgeable hounds people out there but he's on another level. Especially when it comes to working with pups and young dogs. His old articles in the American Cooner are also a great reference tool.

Gun Dog Supply has them for 40.00$. If you like reading books on training dogs get Water Dog and Gun Dog by Rickard Wolters.

I have the original book, Walk With Wick. A very good read. I have also read Water Dog by Richard Walters. Interesting fact in Water Dog they have a article on the exact age to wean & separate puppies is exactly 49 days. The people who train dogs for the blind have determined that at 49 days is the time to separate & wean pups off there dam & litter mates. If left longer, some dogs get to dominant & others might get to passive. Cant remember the name of the place that trains these guide dogs but according to them, they have the biggest turnout of trained dogs when they were weaned at 49 days.

I checked the price on the book "Brave, and other Stories" by Steve Mathis and it is high dollar...I bought it for about 20 bucks with Steve's autographed signature...I have read the book 3 or 4 times and the story about Brave 10 or 12 times...
I was going to buy John Wicks books and should have...but when I saw his advertisement to sell beagle pups back then I decided to pass...His ad said for all buyers to take any pup and he would keep the last pup...I don't know if he believed the pups to all be exceptional or if he was saying that he was a great trainer...or both...I believe in keeping the very best for me for hunting, especially if the pup will be considered for breeding as well...
