Seriously? 80lbs is far fetched? I've killed male yotes bigger than my curs (50-60lbs). Not saying an 80lbr is common but it's possible, JMO

The story started out with him being killed in Ohio and he weighed 184 pounds
Supposed to be on Ohio's DNR SITE at 145 but didn't find it. Ohio's trapping laws from what I was told limits trap size to a number 3 trap that's just over 5 inches?

Well after a little google research, lol.....there are quite a few yotes recorded that are in the 65-70lb range (look pure Yote) and a few in the 70-80lb range that could be crosses.

that pic doesn't look any different than the ones you see of guys standing 5-6' behind a hog callin it 400 when its really 150-200, i'd guess that coyote at 50 lbs give or take a couple but truth be known we will probly never know the true weight lol.

There is an article on the internet of this. Was posted in the group on facebook called coyote hound hunters or something like that. They was trying to say it weighted like 145lbs. Supposley a wolf/yote hybird.

Couple of years ago, a man from Ohio shot what he thought was a coyote. If memory serves me right, it weighed 110# but the picture of it looked just like a wolf. They were going to prosecute him for killing a protected species but when they DNA it, it did have coyote DNA as well as wolf. Charges dropped.

If really look at the picture the coyote is on a hill or mound that's pretty high. I read that Ohio has a trap size limit of  5 5/8"  the trap on his foot looks bigger than that. Or maybe that guy is a pygmy  Wink

If that yote is still alive as it appears, I reckon that guy wouldn't be sitting so close to him while he's p*ssed off caught in that snare, lol. He's got to be sitting back a ways.

I trap quite a bit. Used to long line when I was younger. That is a #3 trap, so that coyote isn't anything over 45-50 lbs. if that coyote weighs 75 lbs, that trap would be a #9 Blake and lamb.............

Looks to me as he is squatting quite a ways behind the coyote.

I saw a documentary recently about the crossbreeding of Eastern Grey Wolves with Coyotes. They are becoming really common east of the Mississippi and are much larger and bolder than either parent species.

I read a great article a while back about red wolves sightings in Texas.  Some say coming from Mexico and some say coming from east Louisiana, Arkansas area.  There here so maybe some are crossing on yotes.   I will say that we went on a varmint hunt 3 or 4 years ago and set up to make a call. We had two coyotes come out of a brushy draw.  I swear one looked like a german shepherd... It was just that big... My buddy popped it with a 223.  It spoon around and was gone.
