I have two dogs that will chew the anus of a caught hog. I want to break them of this.
Should I just sneak up on them in the act and give them a dose of electric therapy?

Me neither. One reason I recently got a training system is to break these 2 dogs from chewing a caught hog. I can't stand having to kill a hog because it doesn't have an anus.

Clip their k9s off and it won't tear the hogs up quiet as bad

If they are doing this while you are standing there, take a pineknot, tell them to get out, then give them a migraine. If they are going back to a tied hog, leave someone there with a good green limb and knock all the dust off them and  make them get ahead.

They both do it while the catch dog has the hog.  Once I get there and establish that it is my hog, one will role out and hunt.  The other sometimes rolls out and sometimes hangs out.  Neither will go back to a dead or tied hog.

I don't know if I could do that to my dogs.  Maybe I am soft.

I have one that was bad about tearing hogs up like that and I like to catch the hog and them not be chewed up so I clipped the four k9s off even with the other teeth a lot of older guys use to do this to their dogs and the one I have now will still be caught with the bulldogs just not able to shred the hog so bad.

That really doesn't sound as bad as I thought.  Did you use bolt cutters?

A pair of side cutters work just fine.  Do it close to the other teeth to make em even, and it's just like about said, no damage.  It doesn't hurt em, but do it quick, cuz they don't like their mouth opened up for all that for long.  Dog feed will polish em on off and make em smooth, they'll be jagged when it first happens.

I used lineman pliers because they will cut them even with the other teeth I think bolt cutters will still leave to much tooth and you need both hands to use bolt cutters.

seems like an odd solution. dogs are susceptible to abscesses, toothaches, nerve damage, cavities, septic infections and a host of other issues. is it that hard to just break them from chewing dead hogs? I understand different people employ and enjoy different methods . . but seems kinda like cutting their legs off for running deer.

Cheesy  its funny but is a good analogy. If u got an electric stimulator, light their a$$es up. If that theropy wont work, then maybe try the k9 cutting. But like barlow said, a dogs mouth is already plagued with numerous other potential issues, why add to it if its not needed? Elec theropy, foot to ass or a hickory limb to the head may work just fine w/o having to practice orthodentistry.

Get in close before you send the catchdog, go right behind him and they won't have time to chew up a hog. It's not their fault you're taking too long getting to a caught hog. The best way to break bad habits is to not let them get started in the first place.

I agree with you on all counts here.  I turn loose between 75 and 50 yards away.  between the green briars and mud sometimes it still takes 5 minutes or more to get to the hog.

x2.          Sure hurts the hog worse than the dog. I would cut them. No k9s around my place if they don't have since enough to use them.

I clip my dogs k9s around here also if the dog doesn't have since enough to use them they loose them Smiley Hurts the hog a lot less than the dog.
