I believe I may have discovered an alternative to comfortis. Between me an my father in law we have a little over 20 dogs between cow dogs and hog dogs ( from pups to old dogs). So buying the comfortis each month for them gets a little pricey. Now I love to get a deal and stretch my penny as far as I can. So last night I was doing some some research and discovered the active ingredient is "spinosad", upon some research ( thank God for google) I found a product made by Dow agriscience that is 32 oz for 145$. This stuff is 11.6% spinosad. It says to mix it one teaspoon per gallon I believe. I can't decide if I need to mix it up in  a spray bottle and spray the dogs and the surrounding areas or put it straight concentrate down the backbone. I also found some made by the same company that was 22% I believe but it was like 400$. My question is has anybody tried this before, and with what results.

Yea you ain't never lying. After reading up on it the spinosad is actually derived from the earth and is labeled for use in  organic  farming.

if you post the concentration of spinosad and the total amount of contents in the comfortis container  then we can come up with how much is needed as long as we know the percent concentration of spinosad in what you buy...

Yea I heard of someone trying a knock off pesticide with the spinosad in it and had bad results... I would try at your own risks.

My understanding of Comfortis, is that the flea has a blood meal when on the dog, and ingests the active ingredient in Comfortis.  It doesn't repel fleas, only kills them from the blood meal.

I'd like to know what people are treating their yards with, as we've been using Comfortis for a few years, and all of a sudden, we have a bumper crop of fleas in the barn area.     I'd really like to find an old stash of Diazinon...

i know last year i had some fleas that were tuff as anything, i moved all the dogs i had tied out and sprayed diesel fuel and gas with no results and i bought a bottle of permictrum "spelling" and it didnt phase them, none of that worked. i have a buddy that works for the pest control company he brought me some stuff and i mixed it like he said and it didnt work so he came out and sprayed and like everything else i still had fleas bad, i gave everythig i had a comfortis pill and put all my dogs i had tied out in kennels with other dogs and let out 26 yard chickens and i sat there and watched them go all over where them dogs were tied at and they got every single one of them fleas in about 2 days and what the dogs had on them the comfortis got rid of that, people might think im crazy but i was about ready to get out of the dog business i had had enough with fleas but them chickens are the way to go on the fleas

I can't get premethrin to work at all.  I dipped every dog on the place and two days later they had fleas again.

used it for quite a while until I bought that tree and shrub...works good indoors as well...already premixed...makes fleas and their larvae sterile...
