Just want to know who's got catchdogs that catch on the first attempt 75% of the time or more? The reason I ask is my odds are way down here lately. A good catchdog is priceless for a hoghunter that likes loose baying dogs IMO.

I hunt with ReatJ and T-dog when I am in Texas and I know they have both hunted with catchdogs that have at least that percentage. It's not very often that those catchdogs are turned loose and no catch. It's different on the runners when you can't get close enuf to turn loose.

My cur dogs won't put a tooth on one except they might bite at the hog once went he catch dog catches. Bulldogs gotta catch first try or it's a bad deal. If they miss and the hog breaks then wen they catch up to them they're on their own till I get there.

I pick up a half AB and a fullblood AB yesterday gonna see if that can change my luck. I guess nobody got a 75% first hit catchdog.

Far as I know I do. I rarely see the hit but have very few bays that break after I cut bulldog out.

We had one that 95% of the time it was a caught hog hardly ever missed. His name was pinto out of 2 years of hunting with him I can only remember 7 hogs that he missed

I'd say mine is atleast 75% and I'd argue better, but we just don't keep track. It's very seldom that we turn my bulldog loose w/o catchin a hog.

Are you saying the dog is missing b/c he is fighting with the hog, the hog breaks the bay and runs before the dog gets ahold or....?

I am saying when I send bulldogs to bay they are missing on initial hit. Hog breaks and we run it another 2 or 3 hours and might bay it again or might not. Either way you are losing hogs either that particular hog or others that you could have been after during this 2 or 3hour chase. I run bay dogs not rcd's or rough curs. Yes they will put their outh on a hog after the bulldogs catches and then they will leave when I get there. I am just trying to up my odds without going to rough curs cause that ain't gonna happen.

As west stated t-dog had a male that as far as I know never missed one. My gyp from him hasn't missed one in 3yrs that I'm aware of. Cantexduck duck has a super nice dog also, haven't hunted much with him, but have been impressed. Their have been several good bulldog threads the past several months, you may want to do a search for them.

I have experienced the same thing. I fixed it by adding a tighter baying dog to the mix. I think a large part of my problem was having a 60 pound missile blazing through the brush to a hog with one or two real loose dogs baying. The hog's attention would shift to all the noise coming at it, and that hog that's been sitting there resting for a few minutes is gone with the wind before the bull dog even had a chance to make contact.

Most missed catches I have seen are result of Briars , water , cliffs things like that that the catch dog gets almost to hog an gets hung up for a second or 2 then the hog knows there is another dog coming , also it depends on how far away you turn your bulldog loose Closer is better most hogs I have noticed that break have been on long turn outs If you get up close 20-40 yards they tend not to break as much
Unless your bay dogs hear you coming an start getting rough because they know catch dog coming , this will break bays,
I run open dogs so I don't like bay breaking at all , because my catch dog will follow them or go catch his own so not good in summer , I would say the guys I hunt with catch 75% or better on the first attempt Also I run loose bay dogs too ,

A bulldog doesn't have to blast into a bay making noise like a freight train. They can ease in, picking and choosing their path, making little or no noise, and then explode into catch.

OK, I see what your saying. Yeah a good bulldog will fix that.
