I've seen multiple posts lately in reference to Winfrey dogs or breeding, etc. Wondering if anyone can tell me more about the dogs and if they hail from the Winfreys around Cold Spring or relatives of theirs, etc.
A year or so back I tried to track down some info on Tom Winfrey who was a friend or associate of Lewis Woodruff and was told by (a woman who said she was) his widow, that he and his father were dead, he had no male heirs and the dogs were a distant memory.
I'm sure she wouldn't have known much or considered the possibility that others might be still breeding the dogs' descendants . . so I'm just curious if it is indeed the same family and how straight they are bred back to the originals, if so.
Anything at all would be interesting, and thanks!

PM "Cledyard" on here... I believe he is kin to the Winfreys by marriage.
Most all of the local families of cur dogs go back to the Winfrey dogs in some way. The old Winchester dog that my dogs go back to was a Winfrey dog... his dam was born on Tom Winfrey's porch as I understand it.

yes its the same tom winfrey. Most of the family still live in coldspring with the exception of terry winfrey and he lives here in new waverly. all the blood from these dogs and terrys dogs is still going and being bred but is mostly been placed out with friend and family. Terry got rid of all of his dogs a few years back when he remaried and placed a good bit of dogs with Jeff Sullivan in the navasota/anderson area. Jeff is who still has a big stock of pretty much all winfrey bred dogs that go back to the old original stuff. Terrys dad and grandpa are who started the dogs of what we have now. Terry told me there was alot of breedings with the dogs at woodruffs place along time ago.

aussie, if you have Weatherfords Ben in your dogs, you have Oprah blood in your dogs. On Bens topside through the Woodruff dogs and his bottom side through the Hutto dogs.
