I've got a redbone hound about a year old that is pretty open on track. Is there a way to stop this? I've thought of using a bark limiter collar but don't want to ruin the dog. Anyone had success with this?

You are trying to stop a dog from doing what's it's bred to do for years.  It makes no sense at all, if you like silent dogs, don't waste your time with hounds.

The only way you can take care of her being open is dropping her off at my house (: I run redbones & I love to hear them sing on a track.

I run open mouth hounds, and after we bay one, they never seem to have a problem going and finding another one in the same area, usually while we are still skinning the first one.

lol  it never ceases to amaze me about folks that want and then go get a hound and then want to try and shut it up on trail  .  if the only problem you have with hound is that it's open on track , then you don't have a problem at all .   that is unless you are poaching   lol   j/k

A hog can smell 10x better than it can hear. They will smell that dog way before they hear him. The thought that a dog barking will scare game off is a lack of knowledge and experience.

You won't stop them from barking in track I got a buddy trying to do that and he's had no luck.... Open hounds is a preference in my opinion some ppl like them some don't just like any other dog... I perfer not to mess with them not saying they don't catch hogs I've seen some decent ones, I just perfer silent dogs

It's like they forgot about all the racket that gets made when their silent dogs catch a hog lol.

This cracks me up!   All you hear on this site is how good the "silent curs" are on hogs and how they are the only way to go.   BUT, if someone posts a silent hound over it the classifieds it will get 5x the views anything else will get.   lol

I have said it once and I will say it again. SPEED is as important if not more important than most traits. If u can't catch up u are just waiting for them to decide to stop.
