I highly doubt he will win all three. I feel the breeders are breeding for show and speed not bottom any more. All the horses lately have nice structure and color with speed and can win the first two, but don't have it in the Belmont. Affirmed and Secretariat are the last ones to win and IMHO the last ones ever. On that note however I would like to see one win the crown again. It just don't seem like it will for awhile and there will never be another win like BIG REDS when he won the crown. That horse was something special. Wished I could have seen it.

Chrome does have a shot. He is a speed horse that rates & that is one of the most important factors in the 1 1/2 Belmont.
People have spent millions trying to come up with a horse that has the talent to win any of the races of the Triple Crown. In race horses, they have computer programs, DNA printouts & every stud's record on what they have reproduced, trying to breed winners.
Most of the show horses are race horses that never ran hard enough to hurt their selves. The only horses that are bred to be show horses would be the warm bloods, Irish sport horses, & horses that excelled in the hunter jumper or dressage events.
All that being said, only 3 other horses that were in the Derby were also in the Preakness. Guess where the others are. They are already at the Belmont, resting, prepping for the big race. No doubt about it, when you run those big races, it takes a lot out of a horse. Glad they have three weeks to rest Chrome.
It is past time for a Triple Crown winner but with better horses being bred every year it is much more difficult. Now with all that money being spent on breeding the best of the best, here comes a horse out of a cheap mare, with a sire that is only a $2500.00 stud fee & he has already won two of the Triple Crown races. So much for all the Scientific breeding.lol Just goes to show you, freaks or phenoms do pop out on occasion.
  Go California Chrome.

yep...I usually start the triple crown Saturdays with BBQ in the back yard and a few long necks and watch all three...this year I missed the The Derby and the Preakness...internet hunting and 70-75 hours a week at work has been disrupting my life somewhat? luckily I have youtube to see the races afterwards...I hope Cali Chrome takes the Big Three...and if he does I wonder who will want to breed their prized blue blooded mares to Chrome Daddy???  Evil that low budget blood just might be what's needed for hybrid vigor...  Grin

i hate to think horse racing is political (ha).
with the money involved, only the perfect horse will win it.
he will have "no holes" in his pedigree as well as having the pedigree to cross well over the largest percentage of industry mares, have a perfect track record and all the quality, conformation and physical soundness to back everything up. when you think about the amount of money a triple crown winning stud will generate, and the sheer number of get he will produce, i believe politics will dictate the next winner of the triple crown.

the right triple crown winner can boost an entire breed to new heights, the wrong one will set the breed back for generations...

Well, we have to get a triple crown winner before we know if he impacts the breed. With the Jockey club only allowing live cover he will be limited to the amount of mares he can breed. If he does win the Triple Crown, in all likelihood he will be syndicated & only those who have bought a share will get to breed to him.
Secretariet with all the records he broke & winning the Triple Crown was never much of a producer altho a lot of mares out of him produced a lot of winners.

i agree, the triple crown winner has to come first, before you know if he will produce.
though, that doesn't mean the weeding out process on potential canidates doesn't start sooner.

yes, he will be limited, but that doesn't mean there won't be demand in the form of his sons.

secretariat's daughters were producers largely due to the x factor.

I'm not a horse racing guy. Or, like most Americans . . I'm only a horse racing guy from about the first Thursday in May til mid June.

So, without knowing any better . . I wish there was a rule where you couldn't enter the last race unless you'd been in the first two. Or couldn't enter the second unless you were in the first. Seems like that would be a much better equalizer.

Other than that . . my suggestion would be that somebody needs to cull Bob Baffert. That silver haired geek (or someone like him) always seems to have some horse on the back burner getting rested up at Belmont just to keep anyone else from doing what he can't.
