i've had several dogs that beat the tip of the tail off and go to chewing and never let it heal.
so i dock them to where when grown its about 2 inches above the hocks. i do everything i keep this way. when i have a litter, nothing gets docked until i know it's something i'm going to keep around.

It's just a personal preference . I have never liked a bob tailed dog unless it's a jag. Other than a jag I don't want anything at my house without a tail.

breeding natural bob tailed dogs will eventually create inferior dogs...I do agree with that...

when i load the dogs i can shut the door faster not having to wait on the tail to clear.

I just got a plot dog from NM and he is about the most sound I have ever seen a dogs body and then u go back to the tail and it's about 4 inchs short and I hate it so I was trying to find somthing good out of it hahahhaa I guess I won't never hear his drum roll

  yeah I used to be of the old school philosophy about short tail dogs until I owned this mnt. cur which is a natural bob .  watching him run and maneuver at high speeds , it doesn't affect his ability at all . but I do like enough tail to get a hand hold on for pulling them out of situations .   hollow logs , holes , or a bad bayed up spot  .

No tail causes communication problems and can lead to dog aggression. As much as 40% of communication and signaling between dogs can be thru the tail. For instance, did you know that when two dogs approach one another with tails wagging . . whether it's wagging more to the left or right says either "I come in peace" . . or "I'm gonna make you my bitch"? Dogs read these small signals and react accordingly.

A docked tail cant whack you in the nuts! Seems like its more of a Lab thing to get a shot in the sack by a wagging tail though haha. I hate labs....

I have Jagds, so its "required" by the breed standard.

I don't recall What militia I am A member of, Also, I don't recall sending in any member dues or attending any meetings. You must have me confused with somebody else. From the way you are typing, I would venture to say you are 1 of the stupid 1s who voted both times for obama.
