How late is it to dock tails on pups I have a litter that is 8 days old is it to late for me to dock em and if not what's the best way to do it

8 days old is not to late to dock tails, you usually want to dock within the first wk. Anything you band will eventually dry up, die and fall off.

Check out castrating / docking bands for sheep. Cheap and work better than anything I've tried. Other bands tend to cut into the skin, these just cut off circulation.

Agree with both statements. I use castration band and in less than a wk, the tails have fallen off or are barely hanging on but a strand of skin which u can nip it with a sharp knife or nail clippers

I know this is way late for H.Wilson, but for future reference this what i was told when i went through it about 3 or so months ago. The vet i use is an old timer and I did mine at 9 days. He said I was damn near too late. When I asked when they should be done, he said 3 days, so that is what I'll be going with from now on. Also, I'm with SDillard, a sharp knife gets the job done.

Find a joint close to the base of tail about where you want it pull the hide back toward the body and take some wire cutters and cut the tail off at the joint take a sharp knife and cut through the rest of the hide the hide that you pulled back will then over lap the cut dab a little alum powder on them and your good to go, your vet is right they need to be done as soon as you can
