I made my mind up about a year ago to breed some APBT into the mt cur for hog dogging...one breeding failed after a few months of looking for the right male...then the mt cur gyp had to be fixed, she had got a ruptured uterus when breeding...so I was looking for a good APBT female or a pup already 50 percent APBT from a good line of cur or hound...with no luck...

I talked to many folks and almost made deals but always something got in the way like coming to my senses and other reasons and after thinking about it made and using my logic I would stop and wait and changed directions..talked to Texashogdogs, Lionandboarhunter, Mike, and they all agreed to help me in anyway I needed, T-dog was willing to give me a well bred female or to loan her to me for a breeding...and a few others as well...thanks to all these folks for their willingness to help...if and when I have good pups I will be willing to return the favor...

I called a friend and told him I was wanting to give away that mt cur gyp and that she was a good hog dog but I did not need her...already someone had tried her and she wouldn't hunt...that is normal for some mt curs...my friend had already hunted three dogs he had gotten from me in the years past so he agreed pretty quick to taking her...said he knew someone needing a dog...he came by to pick her up and we were talking dogs as usual and I told him I was changing directions and was looking to breed an Indian Bolio x Carver game bred red gyp with a red July/Trigg hound...was thinking running hound or plott or mt cur with APBT...that route for nose, grit and hunt...

He then tells me he has a Carver bred APBT x Parker pick of the litter pup I can have...I quizzed why is she the pick and he gave me all the right answers...said he would bring her the next Sunday and I drove up there the next day and picked her up before he changed his mind...He is a yellow dog man but he says that Parker is gritty and a hog dog deluxe...The Carver female is about 75 pounds and a good catch dog and built right...the pups is of the right color and is totally socialized...in and out of his house with a bunch of kids that played with her all day long...I am very pleased with this pup and if she does well she will get bred to one of my parker x Kemmer mt curs...I am hoping to get a rough set of pups from this cross that will make all around hog dogs that will be hunted with running vests...below are some pics of her...I am going to dock the tail to make a better hog dog out of her...  Wink

thanks a lot fellas...I hope to have 3/4 cur and 1/4 APBT on the next generation...running vests on all...

chris...it is easy to stack a pup...even a strong willed one....learned that trick from a dog groomer...before then it was a struggle and plenty of scratch marks and a setback on trust more often than not...  Embarrassed

I think I see what your doin there .. Applying pressure under the jaw ?

^ I know the lady in this picture shows dogs and it almost looks like she might be applying pressure too

^ this picture I took a couple weeks ago and after lookin at your pictures I noticed I'm covering up way to much with my hands

I don't mean to take away from your original post but noticed you did a good job with that pup .

I put my thumb on top of the nose to control the head in the right position and my fingers to pull up the pups chin so as to get the pup up on its toes some and they pose a little better this way...once they learn they tend to hold it long enough for a pic or two...but the secret to getting them to pose willingly is really easy....learned it from a dog groomer that knew how to settle a dog that was getting a haircut for the first time...my wife owned a Scotty and he was getting his haircut and he wouldn't stand still...without any emotion and without stopping her conversation with us she grabbed that dog by the rear legs and swung him in a circle of sorts and set him back up...acted up again and repeated the step...set him back up and he was about trained but acted up a little...the third swing and that pup was stacked out like a statue or show dog and he was the perfect dog to get that perfect haircut...  angel I have since tried that trick on the hard headed pups and it works every time...this little girl got the same training exercise just a minute before the pics...works every time and no harm done...they don't cower and it does not hurt the relationship between me and the pup...  Smiley but it used to do so somewhat before I learned that trick...especially on the strong willed ones...

I would imagine that Parker/pit will grow into an extremely rough dog. I bred a Parker to a very gamey Campbell/Outlaw and the pups are doing really well. Hoping the Parker will give them some bottom.
