I there any type of grass seed I could plant in the yard to take over the Bahia? For the past month or more it's rained about 2-3 days every week if not more and the Bahia is growing like crazy!! I could've bailed the front yard my last days off it was so high haha. Jut wondering if anyone has figured out a technique that I don't know. I have san augustine close to the house that looks great and keep the Bahia at bay but I'm looking for a grass seed to put out and fertilize:)

Good luck with that one. I imagine you will have to kill it with glyphosphate first before you plant anything else. My yard is a mosaic of Bermuda and Bahia, so I know exactly what your talking about. The Bermuda needs mowing once a month and the Bahia needs it twice a week. I've threatened to turn the cows in on the yard.

They make a chemical that will supress bahia & if you spray it 3 times in 7 to 10 day intervals with this chemical will kill the bahia.I have some at my barn & I'll get down there & post the name of it.I have used it several times and it works great.

It's deffinately a very dominant grass. Weeds don't stand a chance I just don't want it too take over what little San Augustine I have. And bolo I'd be happy to know what it's called. Hopefully it doesn't just wipe out the whole yard and burn it tho

The herbicide that I mentioned earlier is called MSM Terf--put out by QUALI-PRO. It must be very potent. It comes in a 2oz. bottle and does up to 20 something acres.Cost me $ 24.00.I have st. augustine, burmuda, & carpet grass & it has never damaged any of these, just bahia. If you spray it once,it will slowly go away for about a year, but will slowly come back the next year.If you spray it 3 times -7 to 10 days apart,it is susposed to kill it completely.I have used it several times on a 1 time spraying and you won't see any bahia after about 2-3 weeks but will be back next year.Read the directions and mix like it says & you will get the bahia and nothing else.

I have tried everything on the Bahia but it is still winning. You have to mow it twice to make it look good. I don't care what kind of mower you have you have to mow it twice.
The other day I was at the eXmark place buying new blades. We were talking about how hard it was to mow Bahia. The guy at the shop told me that Bahia was God's way of showing man he could make a grass that you had to mow twice with any mower if he wanted to.

On Bermuda, spray it with a metsulforon product like Metcel or Ciramet. You need to spray it early in the spring. For now just now it before it seeds out.

Well halfbreed it's nice if you hve any kind of livestock to keep it trimmed but I don't. Right now it gets mowed 7-8 a month just to stay ahead of it ha. I jut want to keep the long stalks at bay or bully it out of the yard and keep the Bermuda and st Augustine

lol I know what you mean ! I've got it in half the front yard and mow it constantly the other half is Bermuda and I hardly ever mow it . but getting rid of it here is not an option with them bailing it across the road . that west wind will allways be blowing the seeds onto the property here . I'm fixing to collar up a couple of them Mexican goats and stake them out there and see what happens lol

Front yard is sprayed. Right side I sprayed a little water to see if it would help get it in the soil. Left side just spray the MSM TURF Just MSM TURF (left) Msm turf with water sprayed after(right) Backyard didn't get anything (control)

U can always use them goats to feed the extra mouths once they get big enough What the heck does the Bahia grass look like when in full stalk? I googled it and couldn't really tell if throats what I got in my pasture. I'm sure I do, but I also got some kinda grass that looks similar to costal slat grass, but I don't think it is salt grass, but I want it gone, it is taking over my Bermuda grass in my pasture.

Genuine Bahia stalks. You can see the black seeds at the top of the forked stalk.
