Do wild hogs and domestic hogs smell different?  Is there anyway for a dog to know the difference?

I was wondering the same thing. If you wanted to start some young pups would it matter if you used wild or domestic hogs? I don't know if the smell would be different for the pups and I don't know if it would start them off on the right foot.

i have seen people start pups on show hogs. i think the prob would be the pups geting gritty on the pigs and trying the same with a hog in the woods. they need to learn to respect a hog    jmo

Well no one around has little wild pigs for sale and I really need to work some pups.  I didnt want to sound dumb putting a post like this up, but I'm getting pretty desperate for some little pigs.   I understand that they need to respect a pig but they're still pretty young and I just want to get them excited about a pig.

YOU SHOULD GET THEM ON A ANY PIG ASAP AND GET THEM EXCITED AND CONFIDENT AND DO SOME JUMP OUT RACES SO THEY CAN CHASE THEM DOWN, HOWEVER IN RESPONCE TO HOGDOGGINTEXAS THATS VERY TRUE AND BEFORE I TOOK MINE TO THE WOODS WHEN THEY WERE OLD ENOUGH TO TAKE A WHOOPIN I PUT THEM IN A BAYPEN WITH A HOG THAT TAUGHT THEM RESPECT, ONLY AFTER THAT WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND THEY ARE NOT SUICIDEAL IS IT TIME FOR THE WOODS. FYI DO AS LITTLE PEN WORK AS POSSIBBLE

A pig is a pig isnt it?

Comparing the difference in smell between a wild hog and a show pig would be the same as comparing the smell of a yard dog and a lap dog I would think.

I have a trap, but the thing is you might have to catch 50 pigs before you catch one with piglets.  I really dont have that much time right now either.

BoarNinja-That was my thought exactly.  A few guys had told me that it wouldnt work so I figured I would get some more opinions.
