I like mine big but athletic. The real thick, muscular, big headed dogs never really work for me. If he weighs about 65lbs and can jump in back of a pick-up with the tailgate closed I'll try them kind all day long. LOL

I would rather have two around 40 to 50 lb than a big monster had a few didn't work that good for me. But on the flip side they sure can hold good hog in place lol my buddy has a 110 lb pit he got from Kentucky few yrs back he is good I just like the smaller type

I like mine big and slow. Not un-athletic just slower going to a bay. Doesn't bother me one bit if they trot to a bay. I like it better because I run real loose dogs and usually only one or two on the ground that will run a 10ft circle around one and bark. I'm a firm believer that if your catch dogs go in slow and pick their rout rather than crashing through the brush and slam one then your less likely to bust a bay wen the catch dogs get sent. I like it wen they slip in there, pick a rout, and nab an ear. Wen my bulldogs catch they are on their own till I get there cus my cur dogs don't help catch and I don't want them to. Don't want them to be lazy, just accurate

I have a firm belief that speed kills, here is mine "kreig" he weighs about 60-65#. He's fast as lighting though, very athletic. On regular occasions he runs hogs down in the open ground who have a couple hundred yards head start and has the stamina to go with the cur dogs for miles if the hog breaks before he gets there. Of course he's mine, but if I'm lookin for a CD I'd prefer them to be built just like him. Little bit of leg and stamina for days. Lots of times we only use him and I like to know he's got the wind to be cut loose time after time and not be sucking wind after the first 100yds.jmo Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk

Every size catch dog is a individual! What he can do size wise differs from dog to dog. Example, I had a 95lb pitbull Mako. You would think a dog that big would not be agile, athletic, or have any endurance! You could take him on a retractable leash and go for a 10mi bike ride and he would be at your side the whole time!
That being said, I like mine about the size of my curs. Males 60-70lbs and hard as nails, and females 45-55lbs.
Cajun. Nice built bulldog, love that alert look!

This is Baus at about 75lbs when in hunting weight. He's 7. He's a straight in kinda dog and not quick to let go. This is PJ. About 80lbs hunting weight. She is smart about going into a bay. If the bay stops she stops and listens. I like being about to call her back if it breaks instead of having a bulldog out a mile or more.

Oh, and we use one smaller CD named Jane. 45lbs pit that's all ear. She is super fast to a bay. PJ normally comes in after to anchor. So normally one smaller and one bigger CD for us.
