Guys,
Although I would love to take credit for the nice looking welds, it was my neighbor that welded it for me.
I got the cover off last night, got the piston put back in the cylinder, and the cover is back on. I am back in business for now. 6 hours, of wrenching, grinding, and cussing!
Now we just need to get the truck out of the transmission shop. Getting the run around on the repairs. Went from a $1200-1800 job to several thousand real quick. All new internals, gear cluster, synchros, bearings, pilot bushing, clutch, etc I guess it is still cheaper than a new truck!
