I had a dog fight (3 gyps, 1 in heat) a couple weeks ago that I flat couldn't break up. I tried everything I knew, including plywood. Thought I was going to lose some dogs before it ended. Any ideas on a good way to break up a fight will be appreciated.--bkwynn

Ive sprayed them down with a water hose that has a good spray nozzle before and it worked pretty good. I sprayed them in the face. Its hard to fight when you cant breath.

usually gyps get along just fine until one comes in heat and as soon as they are they need to be separated...more than likely the others will be coming in heat within 2 weeks...
once one is coming in they begin to fight and it can get to be war...if they are locked up just drag them to the fence or somewhere you can leash one and tie her back...then pull the other one off...they need to be separated until they come out of heat...
when it is all out war one person will have a hard time separating them...tying one back and pulling the other off is about the best way I know how to break them up...

I have 2 jagd gyps at 16lbs each and its a real mother effer to get them apart when they are trying to kill eachother. They were fine together up until the younger one came into heat the first time, then it was war from there on out. They are small enough I can pick one up by the waist and kick the other until they let go, still takes a few good kicks from a 230lb guy......
Last time, I was close to the back door and picked them up, told the wife to open the door and I dunked them in the pool. Still took a bit to get them to let go of each others faces. I swear they'd kill each other if I let them go.
I'm just glad I'm not the only one with gyps that fight...

I've had some real brawls a few times best you can do is not freak out and get all outta breath, if they're small enough pick em up in the air by their collars and separate mr they gotta breath to fight otherwise gotta tie one off to somethin and pull the other one away from it. I ain't ever been able to beat them off of each other seems like it just makes em fight harder

I let them fight the winner is the one I breed lol. I never kennel two dogs together unless it's a pup cuts down on the problems it can go south bad hate to lose a good dog like that

Hitch one of them up to something sturdy, then get your handle on the other one. I absolutely hate breaking up a non bull breed dog spat. Teeth just a flyin every which way, redirecting....ugh.

Sometimes they both need to know who is really tuffer good body slam does wonders usually gives enough time to separate um. But only works when I am there, they have learned not to fight when i am around so they wait till i leave and well they work it out but these are hounds and a cur cross which my cur wins most of the time.

I've broke up some sure enough wars with my 40 s & W , I've shot repeatedly right by there head like a machine gun , and this was with game bred pits , it pulled them out of the trip factor , it can be tough but this has worked a couple of times for.me

In my experience the best thing to do is not try to break the whole thing up at once. Get one off first and let the other two keep goin while you separate the first, then tie one off and pull the other off.

Tie one dog off if you can, lift one dog by it's back legs. Just straight up to where the dog is standing on it's front paws. It'll go to re grip and you'll have the chance to pull it off.
