Just tickled to death. I dont get to hunt like you Texas folks, but i got a bunch o Al. Pork i throw corn out for every day. They've been outrunning me and my 2 buddies dogs and its been a long dry spell, mostly chasing dogs after these ridgerunners put a coupla ravines and distance between themselves and the dogs.
Well, one of the fellas i hunt with calls me a month or so ago and tells me his vet has a pitbull that he was gonna put down if the dog didnt get gone that day. He'd been dumped there, i suppose. Well, i took him, started him slow, first, leash walking him in the woods, , then , run other dogs with him on lead, then off lead with garmin on him, then this week, i've let him off lead with an old spayed female. He passed all  tests with flying colors.
So lately, a sounder of about 7 yearlings have been hitting the corn earlier & earlier, i suppose to get a jump on the older sounder that hits corn at dark. Last nite they showed up @ 630, so tonite i ease down the trail and top the ridge and see a few of them on the corn. Amazing how i was looking right at em and it took me a second to make em out! So i ease out,  collar up the pit and a AB/ JAGD young female i have and slipped back down the trail with them on leads. Red, my AB / JAGD has never been on pigs , but when i've had her out , she gets out and works.
Ease down the trail, and the pit starts winding down to the creek, which is about a 200 ft  drop off from where we are. The pigs on corn are still over 100 yds or more from us on dwn the trail , but he's acting so "piggy" i unsnapped em both and they took off. Pit makes a big looping run, Red goes to chooping and i hear a lil rally. Get almost to her and pigs break. Diwn on the crrek behind me, i hear a squeal, IN Front of me, RED is right behind a 90lb boar. Then i hear splashing and another squealing pig, RED's caught. Hurry down & she is on a lil shoatboar's ear. He's about 2x her size. Get him tied up and on to the pit. He's caught the lil boars littermate sowsister. She aint in such good shape.
So, i put out about 645, and settling in at the house at 915 at the house. Perfect lil pigs for my ab/jagds first experience and really, my pit also.
Only thing that wasnt perfect was when Red came up to the pit caught on the sowshoat, he wanted to be a lil obssesive and acted as if he mite want to protect "his" catch. He got a good lil " correction and changed his demeanor quickly. He responds to correction very well.
Other good thing for me is the lil boarshoat that is in good shape, cept for scuffed up ears, is perfect size to work Red's 2 sisters & she had a litter by her brother(don't ask ,,, these lil dogs have stealth heats!) and they are 5 months old,, they'll be working on him too.
Real happy with how things worked for a change! That makes FOUR hogs caught this year!
This is RED on lil boarshoat.. Oh yeah, other cool thing is, i have 2 sows in a pen, now i have a boar to breed them with so i can start a cycle of producing shoats for training and butchering for the kitchen table.

I swear, if it wasnt for work, i'd be out every nite.  Sure is noting better than hearing a pig squeal!
