As the cooler weather approaches (hopefully sooner than later) firewood comes to mind. We have a local pallet mill that will load up your truck or trailer full of the cut-offs. In the summer, it is mostly free. Cold weather hits and they charge you a few bucks. $20- $40 depending on quantity. Not a bad deal at all for what you get. Sure does help when time is difficult to come by in this busy life we all live nowadays. Minimum time splitting wood too, because it comes in chunks just the right size mostly. Anyone else have something similar they use and would like to share?

Some land near my old place is fixin to hav a sewer plant installed and im goin in and cutting the hardwoods down. Only problem, its a 3hr drive and with no gn hitch, im stuck loading a bed or 20' bumper pull. Wanna take my gn over with my tractor n loader and n stack all the wood my 24k gn will haul and still get my loader back and stay under wt so wt n messure dont screw with me. Iv got a lil ovr a cord on the ground from early this yr that should b dried since i cut with the sap in the roots. Gotta cut a couple cords of green, plus the cord i got here now from last yr. just hope its all dry enough to burn good. I like to let it dry for a yr before burning, but gotta do what i gotta do

Halfbreed, I wish I had the time..or discipline to make the time, but my next 5 months will be plum consumed of work, kid's football, and chasing tree dogs....Charles needs to let me on on the secret of all this spare time. Haha. sounds like you need a labor force Charles.

My company sweeps chimneys every year and I get asked all the time where to get seasoned wood. Last year I referred them to a fellow hog huntrr untill he ran out. Made a couple of thousand just working on sat...extra money but hauling all that wood filled with spiders is not my idea of fun..

Anyone who makes a living off sellin firewood has my respect because it is hard work. We heat with nothing but wood up here in Wa. and I put up 4 or 5 cord every year. I usually have mine far enuf ahead to be burning stuff 18 mo old. I just got a splitter this year and Lordy it has made my life easier. It's an old home made one but it gets the job done so much easier.

Im 36 and grew up splitting wood the old fashion way up until a couple yrs back my father n law wanted a cord and brought his portable hydraulic splitter down. He operated it while i brought the wood to it. We split 3.5 cords n less. Than a day with several long breaks. Man i tell ya i havent touched an axe since!!! Where had that been all my life? Lol
